Chuck let me elaborate, I now hate the snow especially after the 2nd dump of 24". What I was admiring was the fact that people drove their cars in the snow back then before they where investments.

You have that right Pat. My buddy drove his 61 that he drag raced to Wayne State University in downtown Detroit every day, come rain or shine (until he started running big gears like a 5:13)

In the 70s I put a extra briefcase I owned full of weight in the back compartment of my 73 Vette to give me better traction in the snow. Ran that car up to 180,000 miles before I sold it and it still looked pretty much like new. It had leather interior and was a nice looking car. When I bought it, I gave little for it since the prior owner had nothing but trouble with the car and begged me to take it off his hands. It was without question a lemon but I fought it tooth and nail and eventually beat the gremlins. I still have an insulated pair of coveralls I bought to work on that car in the snow banks come winter when it did not want to cooperate.

  3. I've seen that picture before. If I remember correctly they are from my area (Downriver area of Michigan) and was taken in popular Elizabeth Park in Trenton.

    Hello,

In So Cal, there were so many dealers that made claims to draw in the buyers of hot factory cars. But, to make a claim as to being the worlds largest corvette dealer is pretty outrageous. We all know the stock pile of new cars isn’t just what it looked like at most dealers. They all had extra service lots somewhere around the corner or stockpiled away in a large warehouse nearby the dealership.

Pasadena, CA had two Chevrolet dealerships about 3-4 miles apart. It was rumored that people bought Corvettes from Ernie Porter and took them across town to Service Chevrolet where there was a special dyno tuning going on by Don Nicholson. True or false?

This just goes to show you that wheels can make a restored car look like it belongs.

  14. Where did you find that picture? That is another car local to me. Kid's Dad built the car for him (John). I worked a summer on the DT&I railroad with John while we were going to college.

This little jewel was in the guys front yard when I bought my 59'. It looks a lot like the car Enloe posted only a different color. I had to go back thru my photos to see if it was the same car. It had the same hood scoop. Who knows it might be? 63split.jpg

My dads buddy had a 57 Vette that they dragged every weekend.
327 4spd 4:11 gears. Cut out rear wheel wells for clearance of the drag slicks. Keep em hanging. Car ran high 12s

How they should all be driven! IMG_4474.JPG

Ps, I know it not a hotrod but rather looks like a stocker.

It seems to have to do with the HAMB APP go to the HAMB using your browser choice and that seems to help some people see them again.

This is is among my personal favorite Corvette picture because it captures what it was REALLY like. For every wheelstanding/tire smoking magazine cover ever printed, there were ten times as many moments like this that made it happen. I'm attaching my version of that pose in a picture taken by my wife at OCIR in January, 1968. We had decided to celebrate the birth of our first daughter by spending a day at the track.
