Hey JP. Belongs to a friend of mine. He was rear ended the day before, and I went and picked the car up so it would not have to get towed from the scene. They took him to the hospital, but other than being sore, he is ok. Luckily just body damage to the Corvette. Three years ago the same thing happened to him in this same car.

Cool shots, that Corvette looks good

  6. Both cars now probably sitting dormant in collections dreaming about workouts in the good OL' days.
    Sad.

This looks like a sports modified 56-57 Corvette. I can't remember where I found the picture. 5344989.png

CIMG8746.JPG Here's a picture of my "Old Reliable" 59 Vette taken tonight.406c.i. 5-speed torque monster. 4 inch I beams in the front to raise it. Painted in 75, original interior still has that old Corvette musty smell and the drivers door has that little squeak that sounds like a short whistle when you shut it.I've got restored Corvettes but this one really brings back the memories of how they were in the 70s.

Very cool, UtahVette, and I know the smell of which you speak.
When I was driving mine to work every day, a manager pulled me in to his office to discuss the "scent" I had. Evidently it was stronger than I realized, and not appreciated. Probably had some oil and fuel smell mixed in too, and that didn't help either.

Who would go back to the 70's paint scheme, or something more contemporary?

I sure do like the old reliable 59 Corvette. Now days most of the early corvettes are restored and lose their history.

    Jeff,

It was nice to meet you at the races at woodburn and look forward to seeing your car, sounds like you got a great plan for it.

Jeff, great looking car. Not sure of your plans but if I had a vote I would go with the early 70s paint scheme. Seeing early Vettes with a look of the 60s and 70s as they drag raced is something that I would like to see preserved. There is a lot of great history during that era. Arguably it is where they shined the brightest. Feel free to share what your plans are for the car.-Jim

Here a couple of pictures this weekend at woodburn drag strip oldies but goodie, I need to put a rollbar in this thing if I want to keep racing, I don't know who willys this was but it was nice and was moving.

I built some 3 1/2 tailpipes for the car, the exhaust was at the rear axle before and what a job it was to build it around the 4 link and other stuff in that area.

Fom the Holley National Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, KY 2014.

That's the owner standing behind the Vette. His father bought the car brand new. The son purchased the car in the mid 80s. He had to wait for the dad to pass away before he could make it into a Gasser.

It had the Hillborn set up. There was another good looking hot rod parked next to a vendor with that same set up.

Sorry, I was a bit out of it. Had a major surgery 3 weeks ago, and the Doc's still have me good and medicated. Woodburn was a good motivator for me. Thanks

Jim, I have painted the car LeMans Blue, the color used on 68-69 Vette's and Camaros with Camaro style Z-28 stripes (white) from lower front valance to the RR lower Valance. 67 vette style hood scoop cut for Hilborn FI Stacks. What to turn it into a street legal drag car. EFI and a 5 speed TKO600, It's an LS7 454 bottom end, AFR heads, roller cam and mechanical stack injection right now. The car is an early Art Morrison built chassis with 8 point cage. I've put 17in original style five spoke ET wheels with M&H Racemaster Street/Strip radials on it. Just having a clearance problem with the clutch pedal and the roll cage, I'm t dam big! That and I'm just not feeling the paint job. I seriously think I'm going to repaint it before I finish putting it together.- Jeff

Glad to see someone is trying to keep this thread alive (and the Corvette gasser thread). I am not sure which pics I have posted without going through the threads but I do not believe I have posted this one before-hopefully not.

Modified Production...from the really good ole' days. Carried a '57 Chevy to the races once upon a time with a stock 283 & 3-speed hoping to run in Stock class...didn't have a front bumper & was tossed in D/MP. Guess how long I lasted?

Sounds like the deck was stacked against you but it should have been an easy fix for the next weekend.
