While working on the Purple People eater about ten years ago, I felt compelled to road test
it through my neighborhood. My neighbors were used to me driving by with my own race cars, but I got more than a few thumbs up when driving the Purple car. Our neighborhood was a large
development in the country, so it was not a big deal to drive an unlicensed, noisy race car
past my neighbors homes. Great fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is hard to tell just looking at the photo.
The RPO wheels were only 1/2 inch wider than the standard Corvette wheel.

Dave, do you remember how ugly the PPE was before it was restored? Wish I had taken pictures.

Yes, I first saw the car 35+ years ago at Heckerts restorations shop. It was covered with a heavy
oil tarpaulin. He was using it as a paint mixing bench. Ken and Chip had been autocrossing
the car for some time after purchasing it as a ratted out old race car at the fairgrounds.
Nobody knew at the time about the history of the car being the "Purple People Eater".

I saw it when they were autocrossing it. We had a series at York Mall in the winter, late '70's. It was ugly. I think I remember the rollbar was the clue to what it was.

I have always liked the split window body style. In high school (1966, SoCal) there was a guy that had one with mags, chrome straight axle, headers, white in color. It was the envy of the entire school. His name was Brad Murrell and I remember that on the front fenders had "Cook and Wick Automotive".
Nobody envied my 6 cylinder Chevy II.

  25. Damn never thought a T bolt hood would look good on a Vette... 325AEB12-AB5B-4913-BABD-BDC6FF8A2A9B.jpeg BC1BD2BE-9F17-4FEC-A943-96CF3FDDC312.jpeg

Loveotiki my family moved out to LI in 66 and I had just got my license but had no car yet. I would hang out at the local burger place (Wetsons) and all the kids had hot rods, corvettes, and new muscle cars. There was a lot of T bolt scoops on those cars including C1 corvettes. When the 67 427 corvette scoop and the 69 Camaro cowl induction hood came out the T bolt became history.
