  4. Looking for the “dislike” button. I have a local friend that has a 65 big block roadster that has been a race car most of its life. Hoping it never ends up “restored” and turned into another belly button.

I looked for this car on fleabay and didn't find it. Is it listed as a '65 or a '66? On some other year?

The car isn't for sale, just the front axle/wheels. Use the link I put up.

Bozo that I am I didn't see the link for the eBay parts auction until after I posted the question. Then I couldn't see my post to delete it. But thanks for the clarification.

I agree with others it is a shame the current owner is putting the car back to stock. Too bad someone couldn't trade him another project car to restore. So this car could keep it's race history.

Drag racing has been for years at best considered the red headed step child in Corvette auto racing and Corvette historical accounts. A perfect example is a quote from Car Life magazine in November 1967, no less, when they had an article on "Corvettes in Competition" giving glowing praise to the road racers which in some instances they may deserve, but stating "some kind of racing is better than none at all, which brings up drag racing". They then went on to discuss modified sports (which was being written out of the rule books at that date) as "almost anything goes" and most of the cars are supercharged and some run on nitromethane. All of which is utter nonsense written by an individual who knew absolutely nothing on the topic and spent absolutely no time seeking the truth. I do not find it surprising when individuals disregard Corvette drag cars.

When you soak that in it is a sad testament to the clowns that covered racing for these publications at the time. I am not sure how successful the road cars were in 1967 in SCCA but the NHRA drag racers were pretty successful in 1967, winning a number of national contests and setting a number of national records. I am not trying to compare the two forms of racing as they both were pretty decent but drag racing deserved a better lot than they received IMO.

Never having owned an early vette but always lusted after one, I have a question. These cars always look unfinished when the front bumper is removed. Is there any specific reason for not sliding the lower valence up to close the gap? Think it would really clean up the front end.

There are lots of examples were the lower valance has been moved up when the bumpers are removed. Just scroll thru this thread and you'll find some. Personally I dont like the look because to me it makes them look squished in a comical way. If the bumper are to be removed, I much prefer there to simply be no bumper at all.

This is a car that my dad built/worked on for a buddy of his, Russ Carley, picture was taken in 1985-ish. I’d love to know what happened to this car, Russ passed away in the late 80’s and my dad passed the car onto Russ’s brother... that’s the last we heard of it [IMG]

Great looking 56/57. Lots of period correct touches that improve the look IMO.

Look at the side trim on the front fender, it's upside down. Lou says that's because it was one of the earliest 53's. Does that sound right? No, it's not reversible.

Here's a photo of a 1953 pre production Motorama car. Note the trim and upper fender scoops.

Love the casters on the back of the body. :) And those "piecrusts" stick pretty good.
