Deuces I do not disagree with you but I would like to know the date as he was running pie crusts-just a curiosity. LB what do you know about the green 61?
Jim just a guess but that looks like a 73ish GM 5MPH bumper car behind the Mustang if you look between the 2 passenger tires on the Corvette. Pat
The only problem with that Pat would be as you know there was no modified sports after the 67 season and he was running in A/MSP. A serious racer would probably run Goodyear Blue Streaks in 67-IMO.
@jimdillon, That is one of the best pictures that I have found in a long time. Everything about that car is spot on for how I like to see one done and I am always partial to the vintage pictures. I am curious who raced it and what the history was on it. We would all love to find a time capsule like that but will probably just have to settle for building one to our tastes. I know where there are some early Vettes squirreled away but nothing for sale and none like that. I do know where there is a 57 former Sports Modified racer without motor and transmission but I haven’t been able to buy it but I still keep trying.
Roo do you know anything else about the car? Jason the 2350 photo is Gianino-one of the best cars (and driver) for sure. Nice guy to boot.
Sorry Jim, I can't help. I tried tracking via the race number but could not come up with anything. Roo
That’s correct Dean but it’s an impossible battle to clarify that an axle and jacked up stance does not automatically mean it’s a Gasser . The problem is now the term is no longer associated with the class rules of the day . ‘61-‘66 was the period of time that Gas Class cars with the jacked up stance and Axles ruled the strip and street until the street freaks hit the scene around ‘67-‘72. Everything is now called a Gasser if it has an axle . Even street freaks are called Gassers. I gave up trying to clarify what is and is not a True period Gasser. A perfect example of true period correct Is the Southeast Gassers club. These guys ar tearing up the 1/8 mile strips with perfect gear banging period correct Gassers! No freaks or automatics allowed.
Looking at a couple photos, which I don't have time to post, sorry, Sam & Heide Giainino were sponsored by Standard Auto Supply in Detroit.
NHRA Thanks for the info on Gianino's. In my inquiry to Roo, I was referring to the 58-60 Vette at the top of the page (post 2341). Gianino's was sponsored by Standard Auto at the time of this photo but by Midwest earlier in 67. And for the record Gianino's ran DM/SP, D/G and D/A (and probably other classes when I was not looking). Killer car that won class at Indy (D/G) in 68 and went on to win street elimininator.
