Scott you posted the Tomato Can photo from that other site. This is from 1964 and it was owned and raced by Marvin Sterling. I talked to Marvin about this car and his other Corvette a couple of times in the last week. He ran this car with a 301 at east coast tracks and then at Indy in 1964. For 1965 he chose a 1960 Corvette roadster and ran the injected 301 with a 4 speed and an Olds rear and set a number of records with the car. He also ran it at Indy in 1966 and won class taking down Doug Juonis in "The Hayseed" for the win in C/MSP.
Thanks Jim for the history! What a neat looking car! It makes me want to get another! Lol Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
There was a red C1 Corvette that ran at Islip Speedway which was an 1/8 mile track. He pretty much owned the class he ran and eliminator. His legality was questionable, that's what I heard anyway. But the lettering on the car. Oh I forgot why I brought this up, it had a "Contadina Tomato" can painted on it and the lettering that said " 8 great tomatoes in this can" Photos: Rick Schaefer Pat
That is a nice car for sure and definitely an impressive run! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks! Another view, same South East Gasser Corvette. These guys ain’t playing, but they are having fun !
When you run fast you can put goofy stuff on your car. When you are not fast then you are just goofy. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
When I ran I had no stuff on my car. It just seemed smarter to leave it off so the bets were higher to win.
Pat is that the same one that belonged to a guy that was killed in Vietnam? I think motion or kmotion something like that. It was posted on the HAMB here or in the hot rod corvettes a few times.
