Halloween themed for today. If you need another reason to own a Hotrod they can double as a Halloween decoration

    Hello,

I could not believe my eyes. I had prepared myself for something new arriving in our Westside of Long Beach driveway. When I saw my brother’s first 51 Oldsmobile sedan that was pale yellow, I knew one day it would be mine as a hand-me-down. I was the younger brother and I got a lot of hand-me-downs.

I helped keep the Oldsmobile sedan in great shape, did maintenance on it and knew just about as much about the car, parts and maintenance as my brother. Then he got the idea that the Oldsmobile was not going to be the fast dual purpose car he wanted and found an old Model A coupe in a neighbor lady’s backyard. We towed home the Model A coupe, made it run, start the planning stages for the build process to a Gas Coupe Class hot rod for the drags and a daily driver.

A daily driver sounded good. I had helped maintain the Oldsmobile and knew my way around cars. I was still too young for a license, but knew how to drive, already. Plenty of around the block and to the auto parts store down the street, etc. so, I could see me cruising around in the yellow Oldsmobile.

Then it was a fast history as they both got sold to some friends of his and a new black 58 Impala rolled into the driveway. Yowza! My future car was gone, but now I had a target for the near future sitting in the driveway and garage. I learned to drive the Impala around the block, get accustom to the wide feel and learned to park the Impala in the narrow left side of our small two car garage. (our dad needed the right side for his big Buick sedans)

So, I was getting accustomed to maintaining the Impala, learning the ins and outs of the sedan and just figured at this rate, my brother will be moving on to other things in high school and then the Impala would be my daily driver.

Well as things happen for a reason, the Impala became mine. All of the anxiety I had in 1957 upon seeing the rolling, black with red interior, Impala sitting in the front driveway was coming to fruition. In the fall of 1960 to 61, I was the main driver of the Impala and officially, it was my car. But, my brother was still the owner of the car. So, a young pre-license future driver saw, waited patiently and in the long run, became the new owner of a pristine 58 Impala through high school and beyond.

I knew the Impala through maintenance, modifications weekly to keep it fast in the dragstrip class. Then modifying it to be faster, become a tow vehicle for our 671 SBC powered Willys Coupe and finally a surf vehicle with two longboards sticking out of the short trunk space. The continuous adventures of my initial view in 1957, the instant future dreams were now in place and working well.

The last custom addition to the Impala prior to selling it in 1965. Thanks @themoose

  10. Love to see all the guys cars in front of their garages!

I don't think I have ever taken any pictures of my cars sitting outside the shop, but I do think my Driveway is pretty cool! :D

When this picture was taken, I was either just home from a trip or just getting ready to leave on a trip as the truck & trailer are sitting out. Also since this picture was taken, I have finished the 2 tone metal on the North side of the building!!!!

    God Bless

Excellent set of premises you have got there. We don’t have things like that in the UK much.

@Kim Strobeck brought his 50 by the other day, he wanted to see if it was leaking oil and my driveway was clean  and the beer was cold. My driveway was defiantly a bit cooler than normal.
How about an original paint, 15,000 mile shoe box?

Those seat covers look like aunt Tilly's living room. (That we weren't aloud to go into...)

We left Michigan a week ago today for our winter home in Sarasota Florida. It was snowing so hard that traffic on 1-94 was 30 mph, zero visibility. Now, 80 degrees, sunny, it's a big improvement. Here's the roadster under our (new, and not quite finished) carport. Hello, sunshine! 8E1700E2-977D-432A-BF8C-3F4FA40CFDAB.jpeg 507BCC97-0B46-4EB4-9DA4-4AC928B77F6D.jpeg 519C7076-BA7E-4250-BA9A-52AA0428ADA5.jpeg BF28EA71-413B-4218-AA84-898BFBAA5062.jpeg

Edit: Ignore the Port-O-John in the front yard for the construction. I asked the contractor to have removed, or at least move it, but things happen differently here than in Michigan...
