link to photos and story on the car: http://lowtechblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/donatobarris-bronze-flame-roadster.html
Me too. That car is so cool. It's amazing it survived so long without being junked, parted out, or updated.
Obviously Tom is right, it's Bade's. For the whole story read the Hop Up mag from about 3 years ago, tells all the history. And yeah, Its Bad A_ _ !!!!!
Really cool car... I remember seeing it a few years ago on "My Classic Car", on the Hop Up Reliability Run. Here's a link to the episode- http://www.myclassiccar.com/episode/10/06/ ...there's a pic of it on the road.
I love this roadster!I remember the write-up in Hop Up... a great read. The hop up issue is...#4 with all the thirty two's on the cover. the write up is by the owner.. John Bade It is stated that the front wasby the barris shop. Frickin cool story, very well written. worth getting a copy. I have always wondered what happened with that roadster. I havent seen it in any other print other than the back ground of some photos, but it has been awhile. Jeff
Another one that managed to avoid the misfortune of being modified. Excellent old car and good it's being perserved. Frank
Haha... I hate doing that sometimes --- certainly not trying to take over the thread, but people need to read!! ...and, well, I keep an eye on this thread 'cause it's such a cool old Hot Rod!
Wow, that's a nice old hot rod. It's one of those cars that shoulld be studied by folks building "period" cars. Vinyl seats, colorful paint and..and the only flat black parts are the tyres and rubber pedal pads!
thanks for the link to my lowtech-blog the roadster truly is an awesome piece of history, very impressive, especially the condition of "preservation", the paint is said to be the original one from the early 50s.. yeah you guys gotta check out Hop Up #4, really great story and write-up!
I remember this from Hop Up... Had to dig out the issue and re-read it.. Beautiful piece of history Rich
I'm the guy that owns the Model A - I've attached a circa 1952 picture of the car at the 5th Annual Hot Rod & Motor Sports Show in Los Angeles - sponsored by the Russetta Timing Assoc. Ed Donato & his brother were both members of the Slow Freights of Watts car club. I hope to find some info on this club & at least a picture of their plaque. It runs a mildly built '47 Flathead w/ the original headers & cut-out equipped steel pack muffler/exhaust system. The cast aluminum steering wheel was a gift from a fellow Deacons member - it replaced a cracked stock '30 Model A wheel that was on the car when I got it. Thanks to Hop Up magazine for featuring the car & to Kyle Phillips for his expertise. It would still be collecting dust if it wasn't for Kyle. Guess I had better start driving it more! - John Bade
