This is my collection of parts that will become an automobile. It will have only 2 modern parts on it. A T5 transmission and a dual piston master cylinder. So after a 3 day Archaeological dig with nothing but a heat gun and a putty knife, I was left with 14 pounds of filler and a nearly naked car. Yeah, i know, I drink classy beer....... --------------------------------------------Several weeks later------------------------------------------------ One last look at this body before I deconstruct it. Look at all this garbage.... before after I'm usin' the original tank so out it comes for repair. It had some pretty bad leaks in the lower corners. Welded back up, and on to the other side. (It got an acid bath and douced in Red Kote) All the wood and inner panels get pulled Those wheel wells hurt my eyes so I made some patch panels. First time out with the English wheel. cardboard template(s) Rockin' the wheel. Break Done,,, now for the other side
I want some sides on the body so rails first. bent one done, the other nearly done Rail in place and (notice the diagonal piece, I have a fear of getting T-Boned) I bent this over to get an idea of the final beltline. Better... Got my patch panels roughed in Meanwhile, Dana and I have been collecting parts to open our driveshafts, we are both running Banjo rearends. Dana loaned me a puller to get mine apart. Nice! 2nd side came apart like butter
Ah! That's why I never got a call to come out and give ya a hand, you already made the panels! Shit man, can't wait to see it on Saturday...
I had my doubts, but it's coming along. The doors look 100% better with the top rail on. Looks good, I'll be watching this one.
Never realized the gas tank was up high and right over the drivers legs. That would suck in a bad accident. Nice work...I had a lot of respect for guys like you who can take a rough body and make it new again.
That body had an interesting door cut on it...an older guy across the street from my shop (1976) brought over some pics of his '27 roadsters ( he had built 3 with cut down doors, all the 'rage' in the '40s...he was from San Jose, CA.) Glad to see you fill those in, along with the wheel wells. Nice work. Agree with the diagonal bar in the door skin... That should look good with Model A wheelbase...(103"?) Are you keeping the frame horns? And 'Zing' the rear?
Very cool, wish I could unearh a similar pile of parts.. If I had that, my wife might never get me out of the garage...
You might want to change the spelling on your title to "Contraption". The way it is you may very well offend some of the females on this board.
Interesting build. That old body has a story to tell and I think the best chapter is being written now.
That's what got me to check out this thread! What you've done so far looks cool. I'll be watching along with the other folks!
Got some wheels on. That 40 spring ain't gonna cut it. I made some quick shackles for mock up. That's better. Got the body on. Starting to clean up this beast, we'll see how that goes....
