The taco toaster that you refer to in your photo's belonged to Frank Pedregon the dad of both Cruze and Tony Pedregon. We had raced Frank in comp. eliminator back in 63 and 64 @ Irwindale & "the Beach" bowtie40

And as I noted on another thread depicting Pedregon's roadster, he was the ultimate low buck guy, often buying used up pistons from one racer and another brand from someone else. Fordgetrue there, a couple of Jahns in this bank. But the car ran well. Bowtie40 please check PM. Thanks

Kind of scary thinking about driving some of them.

Ha!! How cool, My grandpa grew up in Staunton, VA and worked with Dick, Tiny and the other guys on the team. He has told me all about this Comp Coupe, Even how the jumped a fence into a junkyard and stole the blower off an old semi, and how it was also mounted and ran off the crank to begin with, with 11 pounds.

They also beat ol' Garlits in Roanoke, VA in the late 50's

Wow what a trip finally seeing pictures of this.

My grandpa Chuck, is now 82........

    Too Cool

  17. A friend of mine has the original molds for the Ricks Speed Shop Model A/ Altered. Looks really similar to the purple A at the beginning of the thread.

Thanks, once I get the hang of driving it the tunnel rammed small block will make way for a blown sbc, maybe next year sometime.

Let's resurrect this thread. I love the Comp coupes. I'm building a model now. Nearly finished.

The chassis and engine is from the re-released AMT double dragster kit.
The body is a resin cast from ebay.
392 hemi w/8 carbs. With my signature yellow block. Don't know why, I've been painting them yellow for years. (models).
I may do the engine in the coupe (my real one) yellow just for grins.

Darn chrome...all I did was run-in the cam and it blued the headers.:D
Would that be classed as an A/C? (late 50s classification)

I loved all the pics of the real ones. The Loukas/Preising car was the first one I saw up close at the Don Garletts museum way back in the early 90s.
It was love at first sight.

Great thread. Nothing says, "Hot Rod" like a fuel or gas coupe. Hopefully this little one's ok. Gonna build the real thing one day when I grow up. TD

    Cool.
Say, just how did/do they mount the wire spoke wheels?
Back in the day, that is. I know there are aftermarket wheels just for that now, but did they use motorcycle wheels?
How did they fit them to early Ford spindles?

  22. Spindle mount!!! Started off as Motorcycle Wheels... The made special hubs for Ford Spindles.

Yeah, I'm familiar with spindle mount wheels, just didn't know how it was done in the days before the aftermarket.
So, someone would have to remove the motorcycle hub/spokes and install the new the Ford-fitting hub, then true up spokes/rim again?
Or did it require new spokes as well? Was there a certain motorcycle wheel that was used.
Just curious. Something I've never dealt with before.
My 32 had motorcycle tires on the front 40-48 Ford wheels when I got it.

  24. I recall a thread were it was discussed and If I have it correct, Scotty Fenn or Lyndwood starting using 30's era Harley Wheels from side cars. They machined the hubs to fit '37-'48 ford Spindles.

I've been told using current motorcycle wheels and spokes are not a good idea. Use a wheel built for dragsters or T-Buckets.
