Sure looks like a Ford FE or MEL because of the exhaust posts and flange

Over the years I’ve owned 14 different 59 Chevys and all but one of them had a hitch like that although they did have channel iron that went Just below the bumper and was welded to the frame rails but were all bolted to the bumper like that I think you could have towed a Mobile home with most of them lol. The real thing in this pic that gets me is the weight stack on the front of the comp coupe

The weight stack caught my attention too. Some friends of mine raced dirt cars in a class that didn't allow weight jacking devices. One of them had a tire shop, so they would melt old wheel balance weights and cast them in different thicknesses in Chevrolet valve covers to bolt on the frame rails when they wanted to change wheel loading.

  11. Looks like Al might have had a problem with wheel stands.

  13. The 34 5 window is an altered. Before they were designated Altereds, they were "Fuel Coupes". A/FC means a big motor, or blown motor Fuel Coupe. Fuel Roadsters were "Hot Roadsters". The class markings on early photos of Pure Hell show A/HR on the side. Of course this all went away when NHRA started combining classes and they all were just Altereds.

So, front wings not invented yet? Allowed? That's quite a stack of weights on the nose.

That is cool. Once you gather the history on this one need to do a thread on it and back story. Something about an old original racer that has been hiding for decades brings a smile to my face.

This one keeps popping up in various threads on the HAMB but nobody has managed to identify it yet. The photo looks like it may be from Continental Divide Raceway but that is the best that I can come up with.

  29. Roo, about all I can tell you is it belonged to "Pop" Marner from around the Denver area I believe.
Saw it at several car shows around the early 70's.

All that I have managed to unearth is that Don Hackenberg drove for Marner at one stage. The car was listed as being a Fiat with a blown 392 hemi so I am wondering if it was basically the same car.
