column shifted rods, any pics?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by malaguena, May 17, 2012.

  1. So i have decided to go column shift on my roadster. Im adapting the original 39 plymouth column shift to work with the linkage of my c4.

I think this will look rather good, plus it allows me to use the stock bench seat.

Does anyone else have a column shifted rod? Any pics?

Sorry, no pictures of the entire car but here are pictures of the authors of a book. Both apparently like column-shifted rods..

actually "both" are sitting in the same car. It's just a photo-op for the book.

here's a pic of the inside of my '50 Sedan Delivery showing the column shifter. It hooked up to a SP400 behind a Nailhead.

Lobucrod, what did you use for linkage. I am looking to connect my factory automatic column shifter up to my T350. factory linkage for the powerglide will not reach.

Man I really dont remember exactly what I used. I got a bunch of old linkages laying around, I probably welded two pieces of something together and bent them to clear everything. I do remember that I had to move the shifter up the column a few inches so the linkage would clear the head and exhaust manifold. I also fabricated a shifter lever for the tranny.

I found this pic. It shows the position of the shifter on the column.

My '49 F1 is running a small block with a Saginaw 4spd using the stock 3spd column shifter.

My '46 Olds with retain the OEM hydramatic column, hooked to a 700R. Column shifter detents still need to be modified as does the intermediate linkage from the column to the transmission.

I used the Limeworks shift dent/neutral safety switch on my 40 Ford car column and the Lokar system to hook mine up to a 700r4. I have a column shift in two of my hotrods.

I was wondering when someone was going to catch that. Drilled a small hole in the floor just ahead of the seat and ran a rod with a T-handle connected directly to the reverse lever. Gotta remember to have the damn column in neutral before engaging reverse. ;)

I have also seen a small reverse lever on the floor. Done like a mini lever with a small knob - it looked cool.

I've seen column shift 3 speed sticks even in channelled 32 roadsters. Must have been fun snaking the shift rods past stuff, but I like the look a lot.
