I have a friend with a Columbia 2 speed in a 34 Ford. He was driving and it somehow went into neutral and is stuck there.

when He called I figured it was a trans linkage problem or something super simple. Its a column shifted 40ish box, but that wasn't the problem. The trans is shifting well. the clutch seems fine. there are no weird noises when I start the car, it just wont move. So I figured maybe it is a problem with the Columbia, even though he hadn't messed with it at all before it quit moving.

I checked all the controls, wiring and hoses for anything obvious and it all looks good. then I pulled the rear solenoid cover off and am able to manually shift the rear side to side. It feels like its going into both gears. But it still rolls in either gear.

So I Have no experience with these rears.
Is there something else I need to do to manually shift to test?
Is there anything else simple it could be?
Is there something in the rear that is keeping it from engaging?

I guess I am looking for some info before I take it further apart.

    Thanks!
