Does anybody have any history on this sculpture/model by Cole Foster? I have owned it for a few years and it signed on the bottom 'Cole Foster 1995 No. 10/15'. It is painted purple candy and is 22" Long by 12" Wide by 7". Sadly the time has come to part with it and I am trying to find out more about it such as what it might have been based on?
It looks like it may have been a design study or a painting techniques assignment in a design school or maybe a course in industrial design / styling. The notation "10/15" suggests that 15 copies may have been produced - probably all the same shape and of different finishes. Dunno - just guessing
No! ... That's Cole CUTLER's shoebox Ford. Cole FOSTER is (legendary drag racer) Pat Foster's son ... a gifted fabricator ... and his shop (Salinas Boys Customs) has built some real bitchin' bikes, hot rods, & customs. Here's some of the HAMB-friendly cars built by Cole & the "Salinas Boys Customs" crew: Cole's '54 Chevy Henry Gong's '56 Nomad Kirk Hammett's '36 Ford "Metallicoupe"
In that size, my guess would be it is based on an RC car (1/8th scale?) aftermarket body. Typically, they're vacuformed from clear plastic. RC racers generally paint the inside surface of the shell, leaving the clear plastic as a "clear coat". This also helps prevent paint chipping. It reminds me of those smaller scale custom paint sample "bodies".
seems like you got the info, i made 15 of them in 1995, i still have one also, i think i sold them for around a $1,000 . hope you get alot for it. Marc dubila painted all pieces he worked with Rod Powell we painted them there.
