Event Coverage "Classical AA/GS Group" 2013 Race Season!

The "Classical AA/GS Group" is a group of Supercharged "Up-in-the-air", wheel standing, tire smoking machines that entertain the crowd with side by side runs right out of 1967! All the members of the group do their best to show the fans what the "Gasser Wars" of the mid 60's were all about! Three foot wheelies, 330 ft burnouts and museum quality race cars along with some of the true legends of drag racing still piloting these beautiful machines! Headlining the class will be the "Big John Mazmanian" 1941 Willys tribute car with NHRA Hall of fame drive Bones Balogh at the wheel! Bones drove the original "Big John" car back in 1964 and won the US Nationals in 1963!

 

The 2013 season will see a FULL schedule of old school AA/GS racing! Last year the group made history by returning to the U.S. Nationals and thrilling the fans with WILD side by side wheels up racing! This year we look forward to returning to INDY, along with running at the NHRA Hot Rod Reunions. The following is just a partial schedule as many more dates are being finalized!

The following are just a portion of the cars that have raced with the group and plan on racing with us during the 2013 race season! East Coast Drag Times Hall of fame driver and winner of two National Hot Rod Reunions AND the US Nationals winner Fred Bear will be behind the wheel of the famed K.S. Pittman 1933 Willys tribute car! Fred was an original team driver of the famous Falls Church Va. based S&S Race Team!

 

The Ron Bizio 1933 Willys pick up is the ORIGINAL race car that was raced back in the 60's! Today Jeff Cryan does the driving, and this beauty runs as hard now as it did in the original "GASSER WARS"..!

 

Dave Cobb will have his tribute to legendary Gasser pilot and builder Chuck Finders.. Chuck is a member of the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame and helped in the construction of Dave's "Finders Keepers" 33 Willys... This 33 is a beauty and runs as good as it looks!

 

The Boss Hydro 1933 Willys will once again be pounding the pavement with it's all iron supercharged 426 Chrysler Hemi..! This year famed fuel altered and funny car pilot Mike Hall will be behind the wheel. Mike's Dad Harry Hall was a US Nationals champ in the blown gas class, and Mike has followed in his foot steps! The Boss Hydro is a tribute car to the late Joe Pirrone Jr. who is a member of the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame....

 

THE BADDEST 56 CHEVY in the world is Steve Crook's Blew by You! This car is a show stopper from his burnouts, wheelstands and gorgeous looks! Steve wheels this car like a absolute pro and always puts on a spectacular show!

 

Another AWESOME hot rod is Skip Cloverdale's Special Edition II 48 Anglia!!!
Skip is the ultimate showman with 1/8 mile smoky burnouts and mile high wheel stands! This car not only is killer in the show department but runs with the fastest in the class!

 

Eddie Kasicki will have his Phenomenon 1933 Willys flying high! Eddie was the runner up at the US Nationals AA/GS class this past year and Eddie's show stopper is always a crowd favorite!

Thanks so much for posting the schedule. I think the dates for the reunion at Beaver Springs is the 8th and 9th. The 10th is a Monday. I'm also very happy to see that everyone will be at Epping in September.

The Classical AA/GSer's have been entertaining fans for over ten years... We've been taking the 60's blown gasser experience to both large and small tracks....

Unfortunately not... Plans are to do a torqueflite transmission for John, he went through the motor, new rods and pistons, etc... so he should be in good shape....

Del Wiesner hails from Colorado and he made the trip back to Indy after racing there all most fifty years earlier! His 33 is meticulous and runs real strong! It's powered by a original OLDS engine!

 

A new entry for the 2013 race season will be past US Nationals Champion Gene Altizer's blown small block powered Anglia! This car is right out of 1960!

 

Currently under construction is this unique and very cool 48 Austin Panel truck... When completed it will be a tribute car to Jim "The Painter" Hartner..

 

Many of the gassers that race with us are original cars from back in the day, some are tribute or recreated ones... The original "Big John Mazmanian" 1941 Willys was lost forever in the late 60's.... The Pirrone & Ellershaw race team built this tribute to their friend Big John and have the original driver from the the 1960's Bones Balogh doing the driving.... Here's a original photo and one of today... pretty close!
