Art & Inspiration Chrysler long ram measurements

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SuperKONR, Feb 12, 2025.

  1. Anyone know the overall width of a Chrysler long ram intake setup, with and also without the factory air cleaners? Trying to figure out if they'd fit between the fenderwells of a different car...

My setup isn't on an engine, it's sitting on my dresser in my bedroom lol. But if I position it as it would be on an engine, I can get you close. Center of carb to center of carb is right about 3 feet. That's to say 36 inches. Carburetor bodies stick out roughly four to five inches each side. Depending on if you're using a Carter or a holly. Also a little difference between a 650 CFM and a 750 FM. Air cleaners aren't real big. Maybe 10 inches in diameter? So about the same as the carburetors themselves.

    36" + 10" = 46" total

Be aware that many if not all big block Mopar engines were mounted a little bit biased to the passenger side. I don't know, an inch or two?

Many guys who want to use the long ram intake on a car that isn't quite wide enough will actually cut a portion out of one or both of the inner fenders.

Seems to me I found this information on the internet a while back. But I'm not sure now.

When I sold my '40 pickup 30 years ago the kid who bought it dropped in a 413 with a cross ram. He butchered the inner panels, the fenders, and the hood to make it fit. I wanted to shoot him.

Can you tell us what you're wanting to put it in? I've heard they won't fit in a b-body Mopar without trimming the inner fenders. The amount needed to be removed for clearance isn't usually very much.
    Just don't get shot.

Btw... the dimensions I gave you would be if the long ram is mounted to an RB engine. 413, 440. If it's mounted to a narrower B engine such as a 383, the overall width of the long ram would actually be an inch or so more.

I had a setup on my 57. I did not have to trim anything, and they fit with fender well headers.

  11. @Rickybop You da man, thank you sir!!
It's a far-in-the-future project, I'm thinking of putting a 413 with a crosss ram and an A-833 into a 57 Chevy sedan. Just wondered if it would be feasible before I started spending money gathering parts.
I had a 454 on the shelf for the car but decided it wasn't an early enough engine for my "period correct" brain. Want something closer to 1959-60 if I was going to do an engine swap. After seeing a post on here about a Nailhead in a '57 I've decided I either want to do a 401/425 dual quad or the 413 cross ram setup. The 413 would certainly be easier to fit a 4 speed to vs the nailhead. I have pictures of a BBM powered 57 drag car from back in the day so I know the 413 would fit but I wasn't sure if a cross ram setup would fit.
Thanks again for the info guys I appreciate it!

No problem putting the long ram in a '57 Chevy.
Big problem when the hardcore Chevy and Mopar guys all decide to kick your ass at the same time.

    :D
