I recently purchased a 1945 Dodge 1/2ton. Motor is and has a cracked manifold. I found a 1965 Chrysler flathead 6 industrial motor. Runs good. Removed from an airport tug. I would like some help/advice on what it will take to swap this into the truck. Photos attached. Thx. Skip
Look at the crank/flywheel. I had an industrial 218 and it had an 8 bolt crank. 4 bolt flywheel would bolt on, but offset was not correct to mate with my pp/disc set up
That one looks to be a 251, if so the head will be about 25" long. Your original will be 23. The clutch housing will bolt up OK. the front mount will need holes drilled about 2" further forward and the radiator relocated. Yours looks like it came from an automatic so it will need to use your old flywheel etc. I think the starter mounting surface can be milled to seat the starter deeper to mesh with the flywheel. Or just get a housing and matching starter.
Thank you. The seller has confirmed that it is a 23'' head. So length wise it should fit. My truck is a manual transmission.
