  2. These are not chrome reverse, but are chrome slots. I prefer "baby moons" to give the wheels a smooth look... 0519181626.jpg

Those ^ look like Chevy rally wheels and should be avoided on anything but a GM muscle car. Never ever on a HAMB era specific build.
    Please.
Chrome reverse can run the same caps as non reversed wheels. The center and rings (if you want) will still pop on as original.
Either way can't give you any advice since we don't know what you're putting them on.

Presentable poverty caps for the brand that your ride is. I've been gathering these Chevy caps one at a time over time to put on my 48 on occasion.

These 65 Chevy dog dish caps look pretty decent too, Stole that off Ebay.

20200302_145109-1.jpg I chose to just use chrome dust caps, but the back is now covered by stainless skirts. I was trying to get away from the rally look without spending any money. It worked for me.

No, but the sure aren’t smoothies.

  19. Technically, true chrome reverse wheels disappeared in the mid '60s when disc brake wheels came into common use. The wheel manufacturers switched to the new disc brake hoops to allow fitment on current cars with discs, not the tapered hoops used on drum brake cars. And even then, they weren't always 'reversed' as the outer hoop design wouldn't clear discs if turned 'in' so they simply changed the offset.

But any wheel lacking the 'vents' just doesn't have the 'character' like the originals...

  20. Another thing to remember is the original chrome reverse wheels were usually built by disassembling a stock wheel, chroming the parts then reassembling. The hassle involved made them expensive and rare, it was much easier and cheaper to use all-new components.

If you really want the 'real deal' it's still possible to have them IF you can find usable original wheels from the period and find somebody who'll do the work. The latter part is iffy as few want the liability of using possible sketchy parts to build them...

I've always thought using 55-56 Chevrolet hub caps on TRUE (meaning NOT smoothies), chrome reverse wheels looked good. No photos, and I've only seen it a couple of times on cars. It looks good, and the hub caps are reproduced! There also used to be what we called Domino Moons, that looked like the 55-56 hub caps, only without the Chevrolet bowties. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

True, unless you cut the centers out of them and weld them back into reversed hoops.

    That is correct!
Mine aren't smoothies either. They are slotted. However, they are"chrome","reverse","rims".

  27. A related question – what lug nuts did folks typically run with chromies/chrome reverse wheels when they didn't run something that covered them up like spiders or poverty caps? I've seen chrome acorn lug nuts used, but did they even exist in the early 60s? I've also seen normal open steel lug nuts used.

"does this picture make my walls look fat?" I had some chrome acorns I tried but the spiders wouldn't fit over them quite right, as a result they made a little noise. So I used regular nuts, save the chrome ones for a project where they will show. And word to the wise, use the same damn lug nut size all the way around, makes roadside repairs a lot less "sweary"

The only “ proper” center cap for any wheel is a three bar spinner! Lol

    Hello,

My brother wanted chrome reversed rims for his new 58 Impala. But, after his big purchase, he was tapped out as far as extra cash for any other accessories for the time being. By the time he did save up more money, he decided to spend it on other things and settled on just a different painted look on the rims. (Thanks to the maintenance guy, me.)
    upload_2020-11-12_4-14-23.png
By the time I started to drive the 58 Impala, I wanted American Racing Equipment 5 spokes. Now, that was a whole new money ball game. So, in addition to using painted rims, I added the small center cap from a 1959 Impala for a different look. That was my version of affordable chrome reversed rims.

Then by my senior year of high school, a friend gave me some trim rings to go along with the small center hubcaps. Now, that look was a chrome rim look for a teenager that could afford gas and repairs, but not additional accessories, like chrome rims.

But, for your choice, these small Chevy hubcaps would look good on any rims, chromed or not.

HERE ARE DIFFERENT SAMPLES OF SMALL CHEVY HUBCAPS ON DIFFERENT CHEVY TRUCKS:
