My current project, a lowered 1963 Ranchero, will run these NOS knock offs on a set of 13" chrome reverse wheels mounted on pinner white wall tires. The wheels have five lug centers with the Ford logo instead of the four lugs found on most 13" wheels.

I got the wheels tires and spiders as a complete group at a swap meet.

2 years ago I was at a swap meet, and this guy comes rolling in late, I saw these wheels and tires in his trailer. I asked him about them before he even had a chance to park his vehicle. I hesitated, and walked maybe 20 feet away, I turned around to get a second look and maybe buy them. Somebody else already grabbed them up. This year at the same swap meet (2 years later) the wheels and tires show up again. This guy never had anything to use them on so he brought them back to sell. I didn't hesitate this time. I was kicking myself for 2 years for not getting them the first time. Didn't think I would ever see them again.

  4. The rears are reversed 56ish Ford 15x6 rim... the fronts are just 15x5, non-reveresed.

    Wow, BEAUTIFUL! All of it!
Love the shot with the back end of the vette, the coupe, and the Elcamino.
The 58/59(?) Chev truck is a favorite of mine. Every time I see that truck - I want it!

I would love to have a set of actual chrome reverse, but I settled on a set of el cheapo Smoothies. Threw away the hubcaps and bought a set of bullets. Well, running 5 lugs and no hubcaps meant 5 fugly black unused bolt holes. So I converted my '56 Dodge over to all righty-tighty studs and bought 40 bullet lug nuts. Welded on 5 from the back, and I like it. Different and subtle, and it's a hoot when someone notices and tries to figure out what's going on. I just tell 'em they are factory experimental NASCAR Hemi drums.

  21. Everybody understands that a chrome "reversed" wheel is when the outer hoop has been flipped for less backspace, right?

Chromed steelies or "chromies" are not neccessarily reversed.

I get it. But its not always for less backspace. On my chevy truck wheels, the back side (front side when reversed) has a different shape. When reversed, it gives the optical illusion that the wheel lip is much wider. The reversed chrome wheels in the rear of my pickup retain the same distance from lug to outer wheel edge but look twice as wide.

Oh, yeah - I know what they are, and I have a few in the garage, just none that fit my Dodge. Love the look, just lacked the coin to have a proper set made & chromed.

That is often a misconception. A lot of guys think off the shelf smoothies are "Chrome Reverse" wheels.
I am OK with photos of Chrome Steelies in the collection of photos being gathered here. But technically the true definition of a Chrome Reverse wheel is as you have mentioned the center of the wheel is removed and reversed. The little 4-lug wheels I have look to have been reversed, you can tell that the centers have been removed and re-welded just by looking at the construction on the back side of the wheel.

Either way keep the photos coming.

I like it. Definitely give a nice look to a smoothie.

  26. Also, the ones that use later disc brake outers are stepped, instead of tapered on the now front side, so they are harder to pick out unless they are noticeably deeper.
