I don't know why this is so difficult, I can usually "see" what I want to do with a car. But I'm having a hard time coming up with the right steering wheel.
I've got a '65 T-Bird that will be a Custom-Rod. It will be black (either the original paint which is in fair condition or satin black). It has a black interior in good condition. It will have painted wheels with spider caps and trim rings. Slight body mods (possibly opening up the rear wheel wells). Scallops or simple flames and cut out/dump tubes. I would like to keep it period correct so no billit. I'm wondering if a chrome chain steering wheel would look right. Although I've never used one I remember guys running them. I wouldn't want a little dinky one. What's your thoughts? Throw me some ideas.

Good God, NO! And either polish the black paint or re-paint. No satin, that car deserves more.

If the choices were chain wheel or satin paint, I'd pick the chain wheel.
But no to both of those really bad ideas.

You guys are too easy.....but still no ideas. Maybe I'll have to find a "HOT ROD" forum. :)

  28. Donnie:I gather from the preceding posts that chain steering wheels are not a popular item on here.:D

I had one in my Pinto that worked nicely because of "steering wheel to beer belly" clearance but they are dangerous in that you can catch your fingers in the loops.I think it's bolted to my wall and being used as an extension cord holder.I think I also still have the Ford adaptor for it so if you need that it you're welcome to it.

Still would like to get that wheel you have but have no idea what to offer for it;either in money or trade.Let me think on it. My wife's 72 T'Bird has a stock rim blow wheel on it but it isn't functioning and has a couple breaks in it. The only other wheels I have are a vintage Grant 3 spoke(on my 57 Safari)and a 60'2 era VW hanging on the wall. I'll be in touch.
