We chopped this '47 Ford coupe and gave it away to one of the 20 class participants at the Davis Haus of Style chop class presented by Whistlin' Wolf Media held in PA this past weekend. I hauled the car from Colorado, we lowered it Friday night and Saturday we started the chop. I never liked how most club coupes (with the longer door) have such small quarter windows, so this one was done my way. It's melty. I'll be in Greenville SC June 8-10th to hold another metal shaping and chop class. Pm me for more info. Enjoy!
Just enough to make it look good. I don't measure, I just drop it down until I get the look i'm going for with that particular car and then I work front to back to get things settled where they need to be. I only measure to make sure the top is level and even from side to side and front to back.
Great stuff. Guy who was given the car, is he young or older, did he say what he is going to do with it? Is he a member here, will he do a build thread..... Be nice to see the car finished. You guys did a great job in a small amount of time.
Thank you! I appreciate it! Thanks Rick! Go get something we can chop! He's going to build it... I'm doing my best to influence him and his wife. It's been guaranteed to have a spot in Traditional Rod and Kulture if he finishes it in a traditional style... I suggested dark flat blue with full hubcaps and wide whites, lowered in the back with skirts. His wife wants a pearl white interior.... It's already nosed and partially decked but he wants to keep the beltline trim and stock headlights and taillights and grille... Time will tell! Meanwhile, I've continued working on it... I might round the door corners tonight when he's not looking...
Yes in deed, that is done right. I always cringe when I see one of those that was chopped and the quarter window ends up showing that zero thought was put into it.
99% end up that way. I've always avoided the long door coupes for this reason, but now I prefer them. Wish I could take it home and finish it, but something tells me I'll run into another one in better shape that I'll be able to finish.
Cool - hopefully owner will not run stock tail lights or lic plate in stock location with such a blending form of roof
I think he's going to run the stock taillights, I'll do my best to get him to move the license plate for sure. Thank you! I appreciate it very much!
Going to look at a '46 coupe in St. Paul next Wednesday, don't know if it's long or short door. Been stored for 30 years, hopefully it's not all rotted away. I'll be in touch, we Will make the windows smaller!!! Later
