This is the only photo I have ever seen of this 1940 Oldsmobile which was chopped at Modern Motors in Glendale California, it was owned by Eldon Gibson. Has this ever shown up before anyone know about it ?
I wish I knew, but unfortunately I have no aditional info on it. I think I have another photo of it... but I have no idear where. I dont have it online and my magazines/books collection is still unsorted after our move. Only other info I have is that is was once used on a Gene Winfield produced poster about early 40's custom cars. Sorry for the poor quality... photo was taken of a framed poster hanging high on a wall, hence the reflections.
There was a white Olds at the Rust Reviveal chopped like that. I don't remember if it was the same body style, but it was a 4- door.
I knew I had seen another photo of it... just found it back in one of my many unsorted folders Not to good quality.... And a bit better san of the first photo
I remember having read that it was chopped while being restored at the dealers for fire damage, and that they had no prior history of customizing. I love it.
Found some more info on this car.. thought I post it for those who might be interested... I love early customs! From a 1974 Rod Action article that Dean Batchelor wrote and supplied the photos for. And a slightly sharper scan of the already seen photo...
