Chevy vs. Buick rear ends

    Is the 1980 Chevy Monte Carlo and 1980 Buick Regal the same rear end? Are the gears,axles,brakes inter-changable? :eek: Thank you

    Yes and no. Turbo T-Types and Grand Nationals had the 8.5" ring gear 10 bolt.

    I'm not sure about an '80, but in some years right around that time, the Chevy's had C-clips, Buick-Olds-Pontiac had outboard bearing retainers and no c-clips. Never could figure out GM's reasoning on that one.

    2. open up the catalog for either car to rear end parts
    3. click on the part number and it gives you an interchange listing

    If both cars are listed, the part interchanges -

    If they have not been changed they are the same, Grand National some 442's
    used 8.5's in the mid 80's otherwise they were 7.5- 7.5/8 rears in mid size gms
    and camaro firebirds
