What do you guys think of this? My Willys needs new rear fenders (Shot at '79 NSRA nats and I don't like the wheels/tires)
I think it kinda screws up the flow a little, everything on the jeep is about crisp angles and then boom, rounded fenders...I guess I just really liked the stock rear fenders on mine...
It is called a flat fender for a reason. You can buy repop fenders if you don't have any, pretty cheap as I recall.
that's not even the Willys bed, I don't think. as for two different "eras" : They made that truck pretty much unchanged from '47 to '62 so that's not really the issue
I kind of like them. Build what YOU want. I have a 51 Willys wagon - thinking about a 2-3 inch fender flare on the rear. I have seen some pictures of wagons with them , but no manufacturers that I am aware of ? Bill
Actually, that IS part of the issue. The willys didn't change but the chevy did, so the '62 chevy looks too modern for a '47 truck. But even '47 Chevy fenders would look wrong because they are not flat and angular like the Willys front fenders. The styling is wrong, the era is wrong, even the wheels are wrong. It's wrong. But seriously, if you like it, go for it!
Willys PU bed is very similar to a 1940 or maybe a 41-47 GMC bed with the steel floor. The tailgate and hinges are somewhat different though Fiberglass stock type fenders are available.Real ones are very hard to find as Willys trucks were beat to shit. And while a Willys can be a Jeep a Willys PU is not a Jeep
You can get them new in steel about as cheap as the glass ones. What is hard to come by is a decent bed. I am not sure why but it is rare to find a flat fender Willys pickup with a decent bed on it or any bed at all.
Show me new steel rear fenders for a 47-63 Willys pu,none to be found last year???. Glass ones are 350 bucks each. Those trailer fenders are a lot shorter and the rolled edge not the same as stock and the longer inside edge of the fender is scalloped to fit the lower frame covers. With a lot of metal work they will match up. If it's a custom then the actual fender shape doesn't matter of course. This is a stock Willys rear fender and bed .The asshole with the chainsaw and stolen fence rails is me,the truck is off topic on this site as are all 4x4's.
Heres a couple ideas I saw on the web. Early ford bed with jeep style fenders and a little trailer with flat fenders. The trailer fenders are probably the cheapest option.
