Are both intake gaskets the same?

Use the gasket for the early intake, it might be the same or might not, but it should work. The surface on the heads was the same, but the later intakes had some funky EGR stuff on them that the early intake doesn't.

  5. I'm not sure on a SBC but I know you can not do it on a Pontiac engine because the later intake has an EGR port that mates up with a port on the head.

You may want to look into that possibility on a SBC.

Don't use the rubber seals on the front and rear of the gasket set. Just run a bead of black Silicone sealant and you won't have any oil leaks.
