The engine in my `30 sedan is a 1978/79 305 with a mechanical fuel pump. (It's all I had at the time.)

The pump took a dump on me and I want to switch to an electric one.

Anyone know the PSI of the original pump so I can match it or get it close with the new one? It's feeding an Edelbrock 4bbl on a performance manifold, so I'm guessing the PSI can be a little more than the stock one.

    Thanks in advance!!

If it were mine i would stick with the mechanical pump. Not really a need for a electric one.

Either way, Edelbrocks don't like more than 5.5 psi. Most pumps will need a regulator.

Stock pump might be around 6.5 PSI,might be 8 PSI.I've checked several new ones lately ,a new not rebuilt GM Delco pump made in France was 8 psi.Another one,a new Airteck made in Mexico is 7 PSI. Both of these flooded an Edelbrock ,used a regulator.A Holley will probably tolerate more pressure.I don't know about Q-jets.

Mechanicals are cheap, reliable, and easy..why make life more difficult if you dont have to?

Another vote here to stay with the mechanical pump. Had 3 electrics in my 56', all with there own lil issues. Now, no problem with the mech. pump.
