I was hoping to get my flexplate and torque converter installed today, but hit a bit of a snag. The 292 flexplate I bought a few months ago and 700R4 torque converter patterns don't match up. When I bought the flexplate a few months ago, I was told it would work with both my powerglide and 700r4. I decided to skip re-installing the PG and was going install the 700r4. Looks like the flexplate will not fit either one. The engine previously had a 4 spd bolted up to it, so I don't have an old flexplate. I do have a flexplate from a 194, but this does not have the holes for the alignment dowels. The 292 flexplate has 6 holes for bolts and three holes for dowels.
thanks for the help. current one is G139/361052, which is apparently for a turbo 400. A guy from transtar was making a delivery at the transmission shop I got the converter from and said I need a G142. I asked if that one had the holes for the alignment dowels, and the tranny guy in the room said that they ALL have the holes in them....
The pioneer is for 80-89 P30 chassis, which should have the provision for the 700R4. http://www.checkerauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=PIO&MfrPartNumber=FRA157&PartType=267&PTSet=A
Thanks - I'll look into that. It looks very similar to the one that I already have. Do you know if they put the 700r4 behind the 292 from the factory?
It is looking like the FRA-157 is the same thing that I already have. The pic above shows 14002590 as the GM Part number. The part number I have on my box is 360152. If you look here, it lists 360152 and 14002590 as the same thing: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=13718
Thanks for the info Snarl. I'll look into it, but I'm guessing that a 250 flexplate will not have 3 holes for the alignment dowels. Are there any vehicles that came with a 292 and powerglide combo?
Try calling Bowtie Overdrives to see what they say to use. http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml
You could try talking to Tlowe. He is running a 292/700-R4 in his Elco. I don't believe they used the powerslide behind the 292 as it was a truck only engine? The converter on a 700 is the same bolt pattern as the TH350 isn't it? Get one from a V8 and drill the other two dowel pin holes??
it seems to me that I remember 292 glide pickups but can,t be sure , definately 283 glides, and 235s seems there should have been 292s. Remember driving my old mans '62 stick 292 and it would fly...push the 283s off the road--ah the memories
