Chevrolet Trans ID help

Needs some help with the ID.

3 speed for a Tri Five Car or Truck Date code is from 55.
Note: Someone hacked away the original starter boss

 

That's where I was having trouble, cause it came off a 283 w/ the starter on the block, which I thought came with the turboglide(?).

The engine is a 57.

I was going to put the 283 in my shoebox, but not sure if I was going to use the stock Ford 3 speed w/OD or this Chevy one.

 

That sucks, but its not to hard to find those bellhouseings.
