I'm installing a V6 90* Chevrolet in my A closed cab pick up as I did not want cut firewall for a V8. I want to use V belts as serpentine is not traditional. I removed TBI and all belt stuff . Edelbrock 4 barrel intake regular ignition system and I'm back to a real motor. Here is where I need your help. The short water pump bolts on and I'm told the motor is the same as a SBC. The harmonic balancer has a 1/2" lip protruding where crank pulley bolts on. Has anyone done this? I want steel pulleys no billet. Thank you for your time Terry aka dirt t
I believe that you will need to get a spacer to bring the crank pulley out to where it needs to be to match the water pump pulley. Thankfully, those are a thing: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Lower-Crank-Pulley-Spacers-for-Small-Block-Chevy,80736.html
Also, if your engine has roller lifters, you will need a distributor gear that is compatible with the camshaft.
When I did this conversion, we used the stock pully on the crank. We cut off all the belt grooves but one, for the alternator, my only accessory. I think we found the one for short pump in the trash box. I made the alternator bracket to align as needed. You can also look at the Alan Grove website. He has all the steel pullies to help with your conversion. Phil
Maybe. I am not 100% certain that the shaft size is exactly the same diameter. I have a fuzzy memory that they changed by a few thou in that era. If it fits snugly on the shaft, then yes, you can. It must not rock on the shaft, not even a little.
