Chevrolet 3100 hotwire

    can someone please help me out in 2 weeks i have to pick up my truck now my buddy have found out that the truck dont have a ignition key
    its a chevrolet 3600 longbed 1952 with floor starter..

    any help is welcome i would install a new ignition key but for now i dont have one...

    Does it have the old type of coil with the metal cap?? If so, the easiest thing would be to rig a modern style coil (exposed connections) on it and hotwire that one.

    Those old style caps will come off to get to the wire inside.

    Run a hot wire from the battery to the ballast resistor, and stomp on the starter

    That's good. He evidently knows what is in there. The original coil/engine never heard of a ballast resistor. Just figured I'd start at the beginning.

    yeah i was readin tonight my 1947-1954 truck factory assembly book

    i see its only have 2 wires so i can connect them together and then push the floor starter or 'm i wrong.....???????

    It is hard to see the coil wiring in the pix. The red wire from the distributor should go to the -(minus) terminal on the coil. Nothing else on that terminal. The + terminal should have 12V through a ballast resistor.

    Where do the 2 wires from the ign switch go now?

    oldbuzzard to be honest now i'm in germany its 01.07 at night i will see my truck in less then 2weeks my buddy is going tomorow trying to hotwire the car hopely with luck.. but i think the battery is also dead... so will tell you tomorow if i hear anything..

    OK. It looks like the resistor is on the terminal going to the distributor. It will not start that way.
