Hello! Here comes a project thread of my Chevrolet 1954 210. Bought it summer 2021, from the beginning this Chevy were eguipped with a 6 and a 3 speed manual car built in Tarrytown New York and painted Light green/Dark green, now it´s got a 283/350 combo with a 55 chevy rearend, it got some mild kustom touches done, shaved emblems kustom taillights and the side trim has been moved down a inch or something, and paint is told to be a 54 original green, probably Bermuda green. Interior is one of the things i´m gonna post in this thread, it needs it all, got no headliner it´s got "functional" inner doorpanels carpet needs replacement, the front bench seat comes of a late 70s something car, it´s go a red velour type fabric and the rear seat is pretty much blanket over rusty springs. But in the deal i did get an original front bench from an junkyard and original style seatcovers for both front and rear first we start with some pics from the first weeks i got it
First thing i did were getting rid of the ugly floor shifter, for me a cruiser got a bench seat and a column shifter!!!! Luckly a did get a bunch of parts with the car, one of the things were the original columnshifter mechanism, and all the holes were still there so it were a easy fix. cleaned up and modifyed the shifter mechanism, removed one of the shifter arms and locked it inside by putting some washers to keep it from not "shifting" anymore. To make it all a bit easier i bought a adjustable shifter linkage from Lokar and it works like a dream. Aint got a shifter indicator but who needs that, i´ts a 350 trans. When i got the steering wheel of i fixed some cracks and some new paint. I think it´s turned out quite nice, and very functional too
Got some alu valvecovers, sprayed them with some green And here´s the "new" front bench seat, looks bad but right now this one is stripped and painted, luckly no springs broken. The rear one, same here, no springs broken And here is a piece of the new cover, haven´t started reupholstering yet but in a couple of weeks i hope getting started, i´ve never done someting like this before so i hope i can learn along the way. Right now , everythings out, sorting out some electrical, You can also see the old doorpanels, green vinyl with no trim Rear, floorpanels looks nice, no problems here
These came with it, also got a set of original steelrims, gonna paint em up and i would like to run them with whitewalls and a set of Lancer caps with green center, we'll se in the future
Good luck to you, probably a bit more of a challenge working on an American car in Sweden. Let us know if you need specific parts/help etc ...
Thanks. It's quite easy to get most of the parts, but it's often twice the money compared to us, Ebay have always been a good help finding rare parts And forum like this is priceless, much much knowledge in here .
Past weekend i got finish making the boards for the new doorpanels. now i´m thinking of the layout. Going to be two green vinyls with a aluminiun trim. Sadly all of the original trim are missing and finding something like that aint easy, but hey it´s a kustom i´ll try make my own. Got these aluminium trim from the hardware store, it´s for laminate flooring, they are T shaped so i wont be able to bend and shape them, but i think this could work, Maybe someting like this, the right trim pointing / is supposed to be cut around 5 inches measured from the bottom Or this one i like the best, ofcourse same here, the leaning trimpiece will be cut of to match up. About the colour the lighter green in the middle section and darker green surrounding. Here are the vinyls, impossible to get the colours justice on camera, but you´ll get the idea.
I like the car and I really like the changes you've made so far and the ones you're planning to make. The Lancer caps on steel wheels would look great and the rest of the outside is already very nice looking. Your new interior is off to a good start, I like what you've done so far.
Pre owner made that setup, i think the motor comes of some euro crap car and the linkage is scratchbuilt, doing it´s work with no problem but there´s only a on/off switch, one speed and when turning off you´ll have to time the off before it starts wipeing up again. Compared to vacuum they work like a dream
Been working with the interior, alot of work to get all rust removed, luckly no springs broken, sprayed them with some paint. Started with one layer with some kind of sack fabric, then one layer of a grey isolation fabric, and finally 2 layers of 30mm foam
Tested the seats and realised that they were really soft, too soft, saw a tip on the internet, tie the springs together with zipties, problem with modern zipties is the poor quality, cold/dry weather and they tend to snap off, tested plastic coated wire instead and i works really good, the seats now got perfect tension, if you should put on to many wires with to hard tension, no problem just flip the seat over and cut a few away, great tip
Some previous owner had the instruments replaced with some new ones, gas/temp looks allright they work good but the speedometer are smaller than original and a black coverplate hides the gap. Got me an original one and i think it made a huge different.
Also got me set of Lancer caps, sadly there´s no www tires but i got these with the car and i think they got to much thread left to just trash them but soon they´re worned out there´s gonna be a set of www Firestone bias
Seat rebuild looks good, original style speedometer and Lancer caps are excellent changes. Looking real nice!
If you use some vinyl between the springs and foam instead of the burlap it really makes a difference.
Got some interior done today, very pleased how it turned out, this is my first time doin interior work. Realised this is the easy part, the benches are much more difficult.
