Looking for some help please. I have a '60 Pontiac Laurentian with a Canadian chev 261 engine. My understanding is that the Carter YF carb makes a great replacement for the leaky Rochester. My issue is I have no idea which version of the YF would work best on my 261. I've seen a number of them out there for early 50's 216 engines but assume they won't provide enough fuel. Any info would be great, thanks!
My preference would be to repair the Roch BC you have, tho there's a lot of Carter fans here. The 235 or 261 Chev truck carb will fit, but hood clearance will be tight.
The Rochester on your 261 has a larger venturi than a 235 carb, which is larger than a 216 carb. Rochesters are good just make sure the top isn't warped. Dual YFs would wake it up.
Carter did not offer a direct bolt-on replacement for the 261, as they did for both the 216 and 235. While the arm requires some adjustment on the throttle linkage, a Carter YF from a 300 CID Ford 6 can be used with excellent results. Jon.
Jon, Do you have some Ford numbers (and maybe some specs)?, you did a post of Chevy numbers a few years ago that helped tremendously on my other truck. I have 2 6420S's and a 4786S, I like the 6420 because it's manual choke. Thanks.
This link to the Ford truck section of our website should give you plenty of numbers for which to search. http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/TruckkitsF.htm#TkitFord Jon.
