Chev brakes to Ford spindels

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bondo Slinger, Jun 28, 2005.

  1. O.k. so I`v got some `51 Chev front brake units, (backing plates, drums, hubs,-everything) and some `40 Ford spindles. And I`m trying to adapt the two. Someone makes (or used to make) aftermarket adapters don`t they.
It looks like I may have to cut the backing plate to make it work.

Or would it be easier to adapt the Chev spindels (which I don`t have) to the Ford axle?

    TIA -Ish

I think that the 49-54 chev spindles is a popular swap to I beam axle no expert but let's get this back to the top so an expert can see it

I've got an old Rod Action article covering everything about that--I think there's a copy of it in the tech section.

  4. You`re both right. I just found some info in the tech section.
Don`t know why I couldn`t find it earlier.
Looks like the chev spindle is the way to go. Thanks. -Ish
