    You will be fine.

  3. Be badass all you want, when the roads have been dry, they slick up real fast as the first rain hits, the oils on the road float on the water and it's like ice, thats why there are so many wrecks when it first starts raining. I guess you never saw the white slick on the roads.

After all these posts saying no,you have your answer. Only thing that puzzles me is the regular wet roads in Georgia not being slick. What the hell is a regular wet road?

When I was a kid living in Reedley, Ca, they was a bad ass '57 Chevy. He put cheaters slicks on it. A week later, he comes in on foot. The '57 was sitting in a ditch. He said he hit some water and lost it.

  6. Fact is, if you lose it or have lost it in the rain YOU ARE OVERDRIVING the conditions and equiptment! It does not matter what kind of tires.

A bald (slick) tire works very well on a dry, smooth surface - even glass I suppose if the rubber is soft enough. Add anything to that combo - sand, ice, snow, rain, dew, dirt, gravel, mud, damp fog, antifreeze, water, petroleum spills, etc. and traction is lost in a hurry. The problem is getting it back before you hit something or someone else, eh? Gary

I never owned a set..but was a poor kid with a muscle car, and bald tires..and a few bad days. Lucky the loss of control didnt meet up with another vehicle or a wall.

didnt take me long to figure i needed some tires with some bite.

I would hate to run into some of the squalls of rain we get up here on the highways..they come in hard and fast when the thunderstorms roll on thru..rolling at 75 and than hitting a wall of water without some tread could be a quick handful or worse

Why take a chance on killing yourself or someone else? Interesting you said " Will I die?" Thinking you alread know the answer.

My thoughts exactly.I rode home from a show with my buddy in his T bucket and got caught in a downpour.I figured we were dead for sure but the bucket acted as if nothing was different but I know that another time and outcome can be quite different.

It is, quite simply, a bad idea. Do what you will.

If you are driving with slicks of any kind on public roads, wet or dry, YOU ARE OVERDRIVING THE CONDITIONS. I'd hate to know I told anyone to go ahead, it'll be ok. Just be careful and he hurt himself or someone else. I've rode motorcycles for a longtime and being careful is not enough sometime.Shit happens. Try not to give it a reason. As for as I'm concerned slicks or cheater slicks on wet pavement is an accident waitng to happen.

Remember your first time on roller skates?:p Or, you ever play ice hockey on some pond in the winter wearing just street shoes?:p

Why, driving your ride with slicks will be just trying to open some door knob, that someone has smeared snot all over it:eek:.

Ever go to the county fair and ride the Tilt-a-Whirl?

I've went in a straighter line, with one shoe nailed to the floor.

    Get the picture?;)

I see no problem, as long as you have your in-car video camera going continuously, and promise to post it up here afterwards. :D

We're all gonna die, you're just upping your odds of doing it sooner. Driving on Firestone tires is risky enough!

  20. OK, I am convinced. I will not run them. Based on the number of cars I see on here running them I am surprised on the almost total negative feedback. But that's why I asked before I took the plunge. Thanks to all. Todd

  21. Why give up? Several of us WHO HAVE CURRENT REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE chimed in. I have run them in the past and present, Ryan has had em on his 38 for years, others run them.

  23. Also remember you can add siping and grooves or Hurst will do it for you. Helps a ton in the wet.

Asking will you die with cheater slicks is like asking will you die not having seat belts. Odds are higher for your death in both cases. However, I didn't run seat belts in my 31 or 32 and I will be running cheaters on one of my future projects. My plan is to only driving in fair to good road conditions.

I'm running a set of Hurst cheaters on my truck. Been caught in a couple of good storms and driven it during "all day showers". Yes they are sketchy at higher speeds in the rain, but my truck also weighs 2400lbs. I've found if you use your head, and drive to the road conditions like you are suppose to, you shouldn't have too much problem.

Kinda Off Topic, but I think it might be a good comparison.

There is a guy who built a copy of a GeeBee airplane.

People kept insisting he'd make aerodynamic changes to "improve" the design.

But he didnt, because he did not want to build something that flew like a Cessna.
He wanted something that flew like a GeeBee.

Seems to me he was right.

You cant expect a GeeBee to fly like a Cessna, and you cant expect a Cessna to perform like a GeeBee...

And this Thread is closed, because there are way too many people on soapboxes....
