    Hi,
What would be involved to change an electric choke Holley 4bbl to an automatic choke with heat spring and tube to exhaust manifold?
    Can it be done?
    Thanks

Carbs that used the heat tube had a vacuum source into the backside of the choke thermostat housing so it could suck the hot air up into the housing. The electric ones work better, why reverse engineer it to a crappier system?

I disagree about the electric ones working better. Yea they work fine when you have them tuned for a cold engine start & warm up but if you're out driving around, making stops, and getting back in to go, the electric choke can get pretty annoying as it doesn't know the engine is already warm and it goes through its whole fast idle ordeal. Its a pain in the ass.

This isn't a problem if you don't drive your car daily and/or just take it out for quick spin every once in a while.

BINGO! use a big air cleaner on it and maybe you wont be able to see it. but you really wont like the old set up.

Hmmmm? My Edelbrock 1406 electric choke seems to know when the carb's warmed up even with a heat spacer. Are Holley electric chokes different?

Anyone ever adapt a heat tube type housing to an electric setup?
    Thanks

Make a fake heat tube to look like its hooked up to the carb. I also feel the electric choke is a better setup. It also eliminates one more potential source for a vacuum leak, which the auto choke creates.

Yep, lots of times on Quadrajets.

I'll second the vote that electric is better than heat tube, especially when the heat passage starts to coke up.

Have you pulled your choke stat off ? The one i just pulled off has a vacuum supply inside the choke housing that will pull vacuum for the hot air if that is the case all that will be needed is the choke stat for the hot air tube
