Frank Kurtis (who did a lot of stuff with George DuVall ) used them on his "Sport" and they continued to be used on Muntz Jets throughout the entire production run of 225 cars from 1949 through 1953. Here's Frank with a "Sport". Might be the only cars to originally come from the factory with DuVall windshields? I don't know...

  13. I believe there is a whole article on this in the recent Rod & Custom Little Pages... I'll check tonight when I'm home from work.

Edit... Never mind, it was the history of the Hallock windshields

  14. Where did the "DuVall" windshield start? Original installation?

  15. True, the ones I posted are not what is considered a Duvall windshield these days though George Duvall did make the windshield on the the Tommy Lee speedster. I am 90% sure Von Arx Special windshield was done by Duvall too I can't find the info , these are from around 1936-39.

I can see some similarities in the center post, down low. On the Kurtis too.

If George DuVall made the windshield, how could it not be considered an original DuVall?

  19. George Duvall was customizing cars in the early 30's. Here is his car around '32-33 with possibly the first windshield he designed....

He went to work for So Cal Plating and did some trucks...

Man, it looks like Socal Plating spent more time building delivery trucks than it did chroming parts!

  22. More of George's work...

Rod & Custom, Jun '70, pg 68, in the R&C Time Tunnel column, caption reads:

"Look close...before your eyes is perhaps the strangest mix and match Ford assemblage ever to come down the pike. Front fenders and shell unmistakably '34...interesting, eh what, when you consider it's mated to a '29 roadster (or touring?) back half. Atlas Plating custom must've given Mines Field bashes added interest."

  26. Under my nose all this time. I have 2 of those issues. Frank Kurtis is credited for building it in the Kurtis Kraft book. They mistakenly say it's a customized 34 ford roadster. I think the photo is in 1936, but can't see the license plate clearly. Kurtis and Duvall were good friends working on some really cool stuff in those days....

Black on yellow with the lettering across the top makes it a '34 plate. And here's the results for the Mines Field race.

  28. Could be - I'll ask him tonight and see if he remembers. His roadster started out as a cabroilet ( he said he got that body alot cheaper than a roadster body ) - hence the need for a new windsheild.
