I'm late adding this, but I think it's relevant. The first time I encountered the term "rake" was in this article from Hop Up, August 1952:
    40RoadTest1.jpg 40RoadTest2.jpg
Read the fourth paragraph on the first page of the article. The author comments on the chassis "rake" (his quotes), using it as a descriptive word rather than the name of a style.

Another article from the same period, that I can't find right now on this '40...
    Flamed40W:Alice.jpg
...also commented on its attitude, but I don't remember whether it was referred to as "rake".

By the time I entered high school in 1954, half the '40s around had this stance, and the term "rake" was in common usage.

No wheels just a supercharged butt...that goes like stink

Ready to stink bug position is forward rake
Relaxed stink bug position is more gasser, taildragger style

I think 50Fraud has hit the rake on the stink with the rod n custom story there however. I don't know if what shes holding is burning but it is probably melting. You know the old saying where there is heat there may be fire so come prepared...:D
