I recently rebuilt my Thunderbird's Ford FE 390 and added an Edelbrock intake and 1406 Edelbrock manual choke carburetor. Fuel pump is an 8PSI mechanical from the parts store. Carb spews gas from up top onto the intake manifold and shuts down the car within seconds of starting. Current thoughts are either my fuel pressure is too high, floats are too high, or something I am not expecting. Help?

  2. I honestly think 8 lbs is a lot of pressure. HRP

  3. Edelbrock says 6.5 max, I would check the floats also. Maybe stuck/trash in the seat.

  4. 8Psi is way to much for an Edelbrock carb. They like around 5-6 psi.

    Please read the instructions.
5psi is plenty for a daily driver. A lot of freeway, maybe 6psi.

I got the carb used. Reused existing components where I could, ergo fuel pump. I will recheck floats once I can get another crack at it

  7. You don't want / need more than 6 psi fuel pressure. I've seen lots of Edelbrocks with trash in the needle & seat causing flooding. A quality filter will help prevent a re-occurrence.

  8. You had a no fuel issue to start out with and found a rubber hose went away on you. If you didn't have a Filter past that bad rubber hose you probably put some Junk in your Carb and now have a needle not finding the seat like it should. I'd go there first.

8 psi is too much. I have to run mine at 4 psi or I have problems.
