So my family has ALWAYS been car nuts and every year at Christmas we set up the tree then proceed to cover it in car, train, plane, motorcycle, ect. ornaments. Anybody do the same??
I've got a sparkler "Pom-Pom" tree that is at least 50 years old, it was my Grandmothers tree. I took Hot Wheels and drilled a hole in the top to attach a paper clip to put them on the tree. It also has a Rat Fink air freshener, a Hurst shifter knob, eyeball antenna topper, 2 piece Champion spark plug and Mr. Horsepower sits atop the tree. I added one strand of lights this year.
1oldracer those are great keep it up. This thread makes me want hot rod ornaments. hmmmm..........Stromberg 97 on the top of the tree, I like it
Can I be your friend?? I bake cookies for friends. I too have a hot rod/car themed Christmas tree with lots of pin striped ornaments from friends. Happy Hot Rod Holidays one and all.
I finally broke down and put up my tree this year. After striping 20 sets of ornaments for customers I did a set for my "on the way" son. They are the only ornaments on my 3 ft tall tree. I'll get some more automotive type ornaments as time goes by.
I really like the pinstripe ornaments ! Very nice . We have some trains and cars on our tree but nothing really that great . I have seen Christmas light string sets with cars on them before in magazines . we used to always have trains under the tree too since that was another bad habit I have ! Retro Jim MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !
At Specialized every year we put up a conventionally decorated tree but the tree topper was a pair of 35-36 Ford Pickup V8 hood side emblems back to back on a 35-36 pedal return spring which fit nicely down on the top of the tree. Anyone ever seen Genuine Ford Christmas wrapping paper with the cartoon Santas driving 33 Fords?
Here are some of the ornaments on the 9 ft.garage tree. The pinstriped ornaments were done by HAMB'er Shannon Humfleet. Most of the car & truck ornaments are from Hallmark. The tree also has soda, gas pump, jukebox, pinball machine and 50's pop-culture ornaments. The tree topper is a gumball machine that lites up. Jim
We've been collecting Hallmark ornaments since we got married, 37 years ago. Our tree is almost entirely decorated with automotive themed things, and it's my wifes doing, not mine! We only hang a part of the collection, as it's too big to hang on the size tree we can get in the living room, but it's nice to rotate them. Here are a few: Brian
