"Make me an offer, but I know what this car is worth"

"when restored this car is worth over $xx,000!"

That one always gets me, sure, maybe it is worth X when restored, or built by a mega shop somewhere with a team of professionals... but it's not, it's currently a rusted out, half stripped beater that would take a competent body man 10+ years to get together, so it's not worth X.

We get all manner of Spanglish gibberish down here, quite entertaining

    "V4 ingin and new breaks"

    My fav actual ad:

"195x Plymunt Bevder. All original including the engine! All good except the engine!"

Its in great condition for its age. Really?

Needs very little to be drivable. Sure.

Worth a lot more then the asking price. Which they forgot to put in the ad.

Testing the waters, I'm not sure if I'm ready to part with it. And the reason for the ad is?

    Barn find. Um, OK.

"Would drive it anywhere." - Then why don't you?

"Comes with bill of sale, should have no problem to file for lost title." - Then can you file for lost title since you're the one who "lost" it?

"Only x number of these made, and only x number with this option." - The option is lighted vanity mirror and the pea green interior matched a full front bench seat, who cares?

"Ran when parked x years ago" - If it ran, why did you park it?

"Listing for a friend, he doesn't have a computer. If you need more information email me and I will send you his phone number." - Why not list the phone number in the ad?

"Restore or drive as is." - Hey don't go signing me up for work before I buy it.

"These will be real popular in x number of years." - Good, so you'll understand when I offer you the current unpopular price amount, right?

"Title is still in name of previous owner" - Uh, so should I give the previous owner the money if I buy it?

Any reference to "passing gear" performance. - If it had balls, I wouldn't need the passing gear, I would have been ahead already.

"I have this listed locally and reserve the right to end this auction early." - So basically you are fishing to see what your vehicle is worth and too cheap to post a reserve.

"As is, where is, no warranty. A non-refundable payment of $xxx is required in 24 hours after the auction ends." - Why do I get the feeling the vehicle is not even close to your description?

Best think is English is even not my native language, but I often read so poor ads or comments that I would be ashamed to write them :)

I think that the next time I sell a car I'm just going to put "Here it is, take it or leave it."

    "Too much to list"

My ass there is too much to list... you just want it to sound like there is so much more in the car then the 3 poorly framed blurry photos of a rust bucket can show.

"Just seeing what I can get out of it"

    Sure, dream on Gomer...

"I don't have to sell it"

& I sure as hell don't have to buy it...

  21. "Needs restored"... NO. It "needs to be restored." or "needs a restoration", or even "needs restoration" is gramatically correct if we want to keep it to two words! But, it is NOT "needs restored".

However, one that truly cracked me up was when I was looking through heavy truck ads. Ran across an ad for an older Kenworth W900L with a B-model CAT engine. "Engine runs but has 3-inch hole in block."

    SWEET JESUS.

If its only 5 dollars why dont they spend the 5 bucks & ask a little more for it. Same goes for "parts for sale" that look like they dug it out of a coal mine.

Saw one yesterday: "Asking $1500, but my bottom line is $1200..."

Guess who's not getting any offers of $1500.
