1959 Chevy, 1958 Edsel, 1957 Desoto...those are just a few off the top of my head...I've also seen 1957 Mercury, 1958 Chevy, but not nearly as widely used.. __________________
have seen the 57 lincolns used in the little pages but have never seen the car in real life let alone the headlight bezels on a kustom... also some of the 60,61,62 desotos had the same headlights as the chryslers. 59 lincolns had a nice set too, although you have to use the grill with them because it is made into the bezels.
I saw a '55 Chevy tudor in a junkyard 4, 5 years ago with '59 Chevy quads with a mild cant to them, some other mild mods. Wish I could have saved that one.
http://www.75chromeshop.com/ Try here, they had really cool quad bezels on many different trucks, I have a set.
http://www.75chromeshop.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_65_197&products_id=1738 It's a cheezy plastic replacement, I have some heavy pot metal ones that have some cool detailing but hell these are cheap enough.
My Henry J had canted quads... Whoever did it, an old man in Washington NC is my understanding, it was a little rough. and my International has vertical quads... it's what attracted me to it in the first place.
I agree my first love was a merc with canted quads. It set the pace for my love of cutoms. Chopmerc's Mercury is one of my favorites it has been my screen saver on sereral occasions (still wish I knew who the current owner is). How much should or do I need to get from the donor car? Fender sheet metal, adjustment base, or are they pretty universal in terms of seperation etc.
Awesome thread..... Some of my favs... I frickin' LOVE this car!! And the sweetest custom '57 in all the land......
The '60 and '61 Chryslers did share headlights for each year, but the '60s weren't canted. The '61-62 Chryslers had canted quads, but there was no '62 DeSoto. If anyone has a lead on one of these ugly bastards ('61 DeSoto) I sure would like to hear about it. They were made for six weeks, for a total of 911 2dr HTs, and 2123 4dr HTs. And here are its canted quads.
How much should or do I need to get from the donor car? Fender sheet metal, adjustment base? Are the adjustment bases pretty universal in terms of seperation etc. Or do you guys just take the head light bezel and work backwards?<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
We used the first 16" off a pair of 60 Buick front fenders to form the front end and canted some quad headlights into the front of El Tiki. (See the avatar)
wowww i was just wodnering about this car the other day, the body shop i used to work at but left a year ago there was an older guy who this car changed hands through he got it in a trade and then later did the same, he told me that the story behind it was, that it was built in the 60's to be a villain car for a movie that ended up not being produced, then the car traded hands for a while, the man who i worked with andy traded it to i assume who ever has it now any more pics? what state is it in now?
Here's the front of my dad's car 'El Tiki'. Dad (John Cooper) came up with the design, Tom Culbertson did the metalwork, and I did the mudwork and paint.
I can't believe this is the only pic that i have uploaded... but here's my 52 with Chrysler canted headlights
Hot Damn, hotdamn!! Great thread! I too am a big fan of customs with well thought out canted quads. I came across this sad sight at a nearby small town dump this spring: Not sure if it's a vivid imagination or not, but I seem to remember a pearl white post war Ford with baby blue pinstriping running around here in the '60s - or maybe it was at a car show way back when? Geez, the old timer's disease is gettin' bad... -Dave
