Event Coverage Candia New Hampshire swap meet

Any updates?

 

Updates would be nice and a reasonable set of directions. I made it there last year one time but if it was up to my GPS, I'd still be stranded on a dirt road full of rocks.

 

I'm afraid the drums from the North are silent.
I called there almost three weeks ago and left a message about the Swap and never heard back from anyone. Clyde Kelton, who vended A parts there last year, called and talked to one of the brothers and apparently there are issues regarding expenditures, and some personal issues in the family that may not allow the swap to go on. (Not Gospel, 2nd hand info., but a good source)

Personally, I was really looking forward to the summer season up there, and had considered buying a spot for the season. Pete F. also mentioned he would too, and I think others as well.

Maybe the bumps will get ironed out?? Better a late start than none at all. We have the swap at the drag strip as back-up, but it just ain't the same.

 

I'm going to call Keith Blevens next week and see what he has to say.

 

They'll work the issues out. If anyone could fix something it was their dad, Richard.

 

Talked to Keith .Swap isn't happening. Unfortunately Keith wants to do it but another family member doesn't . Not going to get into details but we all know when someone in the family passes there are family issues. Keith is pretty upset about this.

 

That's too bad. Hope they can eventually work things out.

 

Very unfortunate for us, but worse that it's divided a family.
Hoping things work out for the Blevins .

I don't think you pre register- drive in and they'll happily take your money; first come, first served. They've got plenty of room.
( but it's dirty and dusty and there's no coffee truck- Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!)

On a slight tangent, and perhaps I am the last to know, but no Hot Rod Reunion at NED this year? Not on NHRA Reunion homepage, only KY and CA. And not on the NED schedule either. Geez, what's next!!!!

 

Correct...NO Hot Rod Reunion this year at NED. Reason I heard was too much going on this year with NHRA anniversaries.

 

Did some research just now. Seems there was a statement last November saying the event was going in "hiatus". Reasons given (read them at this link) were 25th HRR at Bakersfield and "major" 50th Anniverary at NED.

Now look at NED Schedule for September. The "major" event is a Saturday night Jet Cars under the Stars labeled as 50th Anniversary Celebration. Big Whoop! And also remember 2015 HRR was in August, not September.
Bottom line from someone who works at track was "insufficent revenue for NHRA due to low spectator count". So the "hiatus" maybe permanent.

 

I heard the Big Guys lost money, so I'm sure the track did too. I just hope they don't stop having the Nostalgia Drags; rumors around on that one too, that it isn't a money maker and may get the axe.

You didn't hear it from me, but I hear there might be a chance of Amherst, N.H. re-opening under a new owner. News is that he is going to put a housing develop in, but that might be 2 or 3 years down the road. So he is considering to open it again. He has the mailing list from the Carlton family so stay in tune and if it is true we should all support it.

Honestly I think it would be a waste to do Amherst for 2 or 3 years. Why not get NED or something else new going really well. It would probably take a good 3 years to even get Amherst going again. Why bother just to shut it down again in 3.
