    No man is an island,
    entire of itself;
    every man is a part of the continent,
    a mart of the main.
    If a clod be washed away by the sea,
    Europe is the less,
    as well as if a promontory were.
    As well as if a manor of thy friends
    or of thine own were.
    Any man's death diminishes me,
    because I am involved in mankind,
    and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
    it tolls for thee.

    Loudbang,
    That is , like so many have said, devastating news. It's definitely not the natural order of things. I have a daughter and a son. About ten years ago my son was in the depths of depression for four years. Some days I was't sure he'd still be alive when I came home from work.
    Having had your son for forty four years is a bit of a blessing as you have those years to look back on. I truly believe that as long as a person is remembered they are not gone but simply not here. You'll be amazed at what comes out of your deep memory. One day you'll see him again so be strong and support those who loved him as well.
    As Queen Elizabeth said, "Grief is the price we pay for love".

    I gasped when I saw the thread title, and reading your post felt like a gut punch. I can't imagine the pain you're having to deal with. I've lost both of my parents and a brother (2 of them to cancer) other family members and close friends, but I'm sure there is nothing as bad as losing a child. My condolences to you Loudbang, I wish I had some effective words of comfort I could share, but I am speechless. May God give you strength and comfort, and heal your broken heart.

    Damn, got a lump in my throat when I saw this.
    Parents aren't built to cope with the loss of a child. Just remember you have a large, ready made, support group here. We're thinking of you man. Prayers buddy.

    I'm so sorry for your loss.
    When I read your post, tears were in my eyes and my heart for you and yours.

    As I continued to read all the posts after, it was clear you weren't alone in your sorrow.
    Many wonderful sentiments were shared by many wonderful people.

    A couple that struck me:
    - The HAMB was kinda like going to church.
    In it's purist sense the church is not a building but a group made up of God's family.
    It's pretty clear we are a family here on the HAMB.
    - Don't like going to funerals because you would like to remember them as they were, and some mentioning the feeling of not having the right words to share in a time like this.
    When I was younger I also didn't attend funerals and had a loss for words. But I came to realize that the funeral wasn't about the deceased as much as it was about the remaining. I still don't have the right words but I've found that the family and friends always appreciate our heartfelt expressions of love and support.
    Family. Love and support. We got you man!
