    A 27 Track T which is now in Germany. This car was long owned by Mr. Bill Collins of Texas, who also restored the car in the 80s. He died in 2007.

    Its a pity but the original old pictures have been lost; existing is just the "picture of the picture", the frame holding the old stuff in it.

    The history of the car keeps the builders alive!

    A 1919 Model T Touring. The history is not fully clear but somehow build in the early 50s. I was found after a long term storage and Mickey Himsl brought it back on the roads.
    It was sold to Germany and was restored by the Hotrodgarge in Germany technically and optically where necessary. But the aim was to keep the history alive and to show its age.

    My late Dad's '35 p/u from early '60's. He adapted the '35 car grille/ hood/headlights. Original surviver from the day, just brought to life within past year.

    Brought back this old thread, as it seemed to tie in with the current patina thread.
    Many of these cars are showing their age, but aren't neglected or wearing faux patina, they are just honest old Hot Rods that haven't succumbed to full on em!

  12. This pile-o-parts is an old rod from who knows when. Found in a barn in lower TN, it has a 59AB (which turned out to be freshly rebuilt), a 37 tranny and rear end, with 34 x-member and rear crossmember. Also sports a boxed frame and gas welded roof insert. It survived a VERY CLOSE fire at sometime, as the windshield and primer was bubbled. Finally on the road and enjoying a new life. LOTS still to do!

    Dick Bertolucci '38 coupe was found outside Eugene, OR in mid 90's
    Ryan did a nice article in Jalopy Journal about the original car.
    Kustomrama did an article about the lost history you can read online..
    Dick said he and wife took the Chevy on their honeymoon to Bonneville, dash plate said 114MPH, I think 1950. Saw the car at Erik Sanders (RIP) shop before Dick and friend came to pick it up. Carl Hoganson (RIP) had bought it from a kid who was scared to death of the lead he found when sanding it. Carl wanted to rebuild the car but we ALL leaned on him and told him it NEEDED to go home to its' builder. Wished I had taken a picture of it at Eriks shop...memory still feels like a ghost ship...     I saw this in Canada in 2016, a real old build that's now owned by a HAMBer. A true survivor and time capsule.
  16. We just acquired this from my Grandfather's estate, he passed in 2010 and had it running as recently as '04 but aside from some new seat material is mostly untouched. Yes. it has the 12 in it and hopefully this week I will have it running.

    Here's my survivor 1934 Ford pickup; originally chopped 2-1/2" in the 1950's Sacramento. It also had a 1941 Ford dash originally when I got it (I installed a 1936 Ford dash later). Everything was/is oxy/acetylene welded and leaded in. It was just a frame and cab when I found it; six years it sits.

  19. Opfi, I grew up in Garland, Tx. In the late 60’s. I was Bill Collins Paper Boy, when he lived on Sunset Drive. Most People don’t know at that Time. Bill owned & Drove Carl Stone’s 1932 Ford Roadster Race Car (Rollin Stone ). As, Carl was a Bank Robber & Went to Prison. Also, most People don’t know was Carl Stone had 2 1932 Roadster Painted the same. One was Strictly a Street Roadster & The other Roadster was a race car. The Strictly Race Roadster Burned up & was Destroyed, at a Drag Race. The other 1932 Roadster that is a Survivor is the Strictly Street Roadster. A Friend of mine, Ken invited me to dinner, again to meet Bill Collins & talk with Bill. He Spoke of his Hot Rods he had built over his life & Carl Stone’s Famous 32 Roadster Race Car (Rollin Stone). This was in about 2005. He told me thie Whole story about getting & owning Carl’s 32 Roadster. Regards BigDTexasKid

    I´m not sure if this qualifies as a hot rod, but it certainly is a survivor. It was bought from the MGM studios in the 60s or early 70s by a friend´s friend and the story goes it has been used in a few movies. I´m not sure if that´s true, but it is incredibly unmolested, not rust at all and drives like a dream... My friend Jay ended up with it and now I am the new caretaker... thanks for letting me have it, Jay.

    Survivor gasser that dad started building in 1969. Raced until 74. Sat in climate control basement until 2016 when we brought it out. 241 Dodge Hemi Muncie 4 speed. Olds rear end. 12-1 Jahns pistons Crower .480 lift special grind. Rare Rotofaze dual cap distributor Painted hand letterd in 70-71. Stickers are original except for the Yeah it’s got

    I thought that I would add a few pictures. Some are not rods but are interesting: 1970.jpg Long time friend Al Padilla originally built this T in about 1965, rebuilt it to be show worthy in 1968 or so. This picture was taken at the Dallas Autorama in 1970. He let me take my girl friend for a ride in it in 1969. Became his son's years later and then he got it back later on. Still has it but it hasn't ran in a long time. 1973.jpg Group of Dallas Area Street Rods' cars in about 1973. Don't know where any are now accept for Al Padilla's T. 1975.jpg This is a one family owned 1924 Cadillac that was in storage for years. Had about 20,000 miles on it These pictures are from 1974 or 75. A friend and I got it running for the owner. Had a large flathead V-8 in it. Ran great and we kept it for a while until the owner was ready for it. Used it to push other old cars around that we were fooling with. 1976.jpg George Owens, another friend bought this rust free 32 5 widow in about 1976. It was setting in a vacant lot in Weatherford Texas. the owner had parked out in the weather for a few years while letting his teenage son decide if he wanted to have it. The top insert had gone bad but the vinyl headliner was keeping some moisture out. The guy wanted to keep the Chevy motor , so George brought it home, pulled the Chevy and put a 59-AB in it. Already had juice brakes so he proceeded to drive it for many miles. Eventually went to Sweden. 1976-1.jpg George tracked this 34 roadster down in Denton Texas in about 1979. Had a Chevy with a Lasalle transmission and 34 rear end. Was built in the 1960's Also was a rust free body. It was super reliable an very fast. He drove it for many miles of smiles! Eventually it was sold and was restored back to factory original . 1968.jpg This 1931 Tudor was my first car. Got it in 1965 for $125.00 when I was 15. The wheels came later. The rears were from a 1932 REO and had been welded to 'A' drums and hubs for a trailer. I got them from a neighbor. I got the 4 banger rebuilt and began my journey with old cars. I still have those rear wheels and tires. Traded in on a 1933 5 window hot rod that I found on a used car lot in Mesquite Texas in 1968. 1972-2.jpg This car looked great but was full of bondo and every moving piece was worn out. The interior was red and white individually sewn naugahyde pleats. I proceeded to break transmissions and rear ends frequently ! It was my ever day ride except when it was broke down.. Eventually put a 400 Turbo and 56 chevy rear end in it. Traded it off in 1972 after getting out of the Army. 1972.jpg Bought this 1928 A roadster pick up in 1972. I got it running an enjoyed driving it for several years in stock form. Eventually built another chassis with a Chevy II 4 cyl and early V-8 drive train. Still have it and its still not quite 'finished' 0116151325 a.JPG 1956.jpg My Dad bought this truck seen in the corner of the picture new in 1950. Pic was taken in 1956.. Was our only vehicle until 1960. Was used for every purpose and finally parked I took it in about 1982 and completely did a frame of rebuild. Still have it. July 2004 50.jpg Bought this 33 BB in 1998. It had been in a barn since 1954. Have used it as it was intended ever since! 2003-2006.jpg

Bought it from a guy that bought it from the purchased-new original owner in 2010. He’d had a “kid” put a “hopped up” V8 in it before deciding he wished he’d left the original 235 six in it and had gotten too old to be able to drive it. It had sat undriven since 1999 un-registered and rebuffed everyone’s request to buy it.

    The guy I bought it from put in a battery, had the brakes redone by others, the carb rebuilt then realized it was a “money pit” - his words - and just wanted to get out of it after 6 months. I got it early in 2011, it was looking awful. It ran poorly, 4 mis-matched tires, and even though I am NOT appreciative of what others call “patina” I’d have left it alone cosmetically but this truck had zero.

    She’s now OT to the HAMB but originally I painted it Rustoleum satin Sage Green, put my old 15” Torq Thrust knockoffs & take off tires from Craigslist on her. Then new plugs, wires, Pertronix, radiator redo, Fixed cracked steering wheel, yada, yada. It looks good IMHO.

    My 36 was parked in the mid 1970’s. Definitely a survivor. I did a mechanical restoration. Modern wiring new Flathead and dropped it with power discs and clutch. Buffed out the 50 year old paint and I drive it weekly to work. Goes down the road like a new car.
