I've posted these before of my "survivor". It was built in 1978-79 and sat in storage from 1988 till I bought it from my friend in 2008. 1979... Coming out of 20 years storage in 2008... 2009...
in my mind a survivor is a something that was actually built back in the day and has remained relatively untouched and unrestored since being constructed. for the sake of this forum and my personal interests this would only include cars that were built in the first half of the sixties and earlier. a car that has been put together out of old parts to make it look like an old build is simply just a car built to emulate and era. just because a car was chopped in the 50's and the body survived long enough to be put back together as a hot rod now does not make it a survivor. i only see a couple of true "survivors" in this thread so far, although all the cars are badass. this subject is something that strikes a chord with me since i have a strong love affair with this subject matter. to be able to see a car exactly how it was built in that era with every nut and bolt intact is something really special. it would be great to have an archive of all the cars that fit this criteria with pictures so we can all learn from it. i think this was what the original poster of this thread had in mind. the line between traditional and the modern spin on tradition has started to become blurred, and i am always anxious to see how it was really done. a couple of good examples of what i am talking about, just because i really want this one to stay on track. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370586&highlight=little+monster&showall=1 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=415749 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178173&highlight=50+rod+recovered&showall=1 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=311043&highlight=50+rod+recovered&showall=1 sorry for the rant.
This '36 roadster was done in '49. The paint is '49. The interior '55. Lotsa chrome and a hot '40 merc mill with original '40's backyard speedway grind cam. Legend has it that the tail of this car was clipped by the Melbourne Express train in a race for the rail crossing, and this apparently going on whilst the car's builder was taking a girl out on a date.
My buddy owns this old showcar, A roadster. Was built in 1958 and he bought it from the guy who built it, and had it stored for 38 years in same garage he built it in. It was first gone green with red & white interior, then 2 years later, it was changed to red. Then while red, 2 years later, had interior dyed black. When Olds motor lost a cylinder, he swapped to a sbc. My buddy got the Olds motor, with a 2x4 and 6x2 intakes, with all the chrome 97s. I did a thread on it over a year ago. Its being reborn right now. The og builder lives 2 blocks from me and is still going strong, but retired from cars.
This is my East coast Survivor. My grandfather bulit it in 1958 and I bought it back and brought it back to life in 2004.
