I have the stromberg pictured below. Model EE-16, the side of the carb is labeled B5 1 1/32. Is there any reason it can not be converted into a "standard" 48 by switching tops, and reversing the accelerator pump linkage?

    Thanks

    Jimmy

did you check the bolt pattern on the base? it might be smaller than the 48. looks like it would be a lot easier just to buy a 48.

you'd have to change bases too... the accelerator pump is on the wrong side.

If you throw enough money at the carb (or labor), it may be possible, BUT WHY???

Look at the mounting. It is a 4 bolt trapizoidal pattern!

    now that you mention it....

It was a 4 bolt pattern on a "D" shaped base. But someone added a 5th hole to mount it to a 3 bolt intake. The "D" shaped base is the same size as the 48 I have.

    still looking for input.

  13. Set it on the shelf and buy a 48. buy the time you convert it all you will have used is the mid section. Not worth it.

If you remove the top and compare the center-section with a 48, you'll see some subtle differences. For one thing, the high speed airbleeds are entirely different. Just sell it to some poor Buick owner.

It will be easier to sell to a Packard owner. :D

The trapezoidal 4-bolt pattern, used on several nonFord EE's, seems to be the actual reason for the broad D shape of the Stromberg base...that left room for both patterns. The Ford 94 carbs deleted that extra iron, and Stromberg finally deleted it from late aftermarket carbs because the only market was to people running Ford three bolt setups.

Bruce - the trapezoidal base is larger than the Ford 97 base. It is impossible to drill the trapezoidal pattern on the Ford 97 base.

I knew that. I was replying to Hotrodpackard's post and since he is a long-time close male companion friend of mine, I didn't want to diss him or in any other way upset our special relationship by mentioning the P word.

Well, I went to look at mine to compare bases and discovered mine to be a 3-bolt one, but not a Ford base. I think I decoded it to Packard via the catalog, but don't remember for sure. My variant has vac outlet boss opened, right side rocker pivot BUT with undrilled left side pivot, boss for some kind of choke giz as above but on OTHER side, and air horn is reduced diameter, about typical one-barrel size! There is also a strange die cast throttle arm...there's another one in tha basement that will probably turn out to be different again. I'll leave it to the spiders for now.
