Or maybe even the buick? Shit any other readily available 70's 80's GM V8's. I guess the main part it the multi-carb intake.
There are dress up items that look old timey (finned valve covers, etc) but as you mentioned the intake situation is the hardest to overcome. Only intakes I know of are aluminum single 4 barrel. If there are multiple carb intakes I haven't seen them. Only solution might be something like a Vintage Speed 2 or 3 carb adapter. Good engines, just not a lot of hot rod type parts developed for them. Don
I just sold my Olds project car that I had for years. Had 2 350 Olds engines with it. The only thing I could find was finned Edelbrock valve covers and a Offenhauser intake (4bbl). That's it....
There are multi carb manifolds available. '66 '67 442 with a W option had 3 dueces on a 400. I think that was a small block motor. There were also some aftermarket 2X4 available.
There is a shortage of dress up goodies for them but they run hell for good and they are dead nuts reliable. I think I've had six 350R's in various rigs in the past 40 years and have one stashed in the shed now.
Yep, 350 is different than 400 or 455. Even if you could find one of the very rare L69/W30 intakes (they only made something like 1200 of them in 66 and they go for BIG money) it won't fit your 350. Luckily, my Son did score one for his 455. Don
That looks good. Vintage. 400 & 455 ah???? what years 60s & 70s? I now they make multi/carb intakes for those. distance from fan on pulley(no spacer) to CENTER of distributor????
I think the 455's started in 68 and went to 76. They are not high winders but make a ton of torque and hp up to about 5500. You can get 2 x 4 manifolds for them (but they are always on back order it seems) however they do show up on Ebay quite often. If my Son hadn't scored the tripower setup from his Brother he would have gone with the two fours. While a 455 wouldn't be traditional traditional, they can be dressed up to look pretty good. Everyone who sees my Sons likes it but they usually think it is a Cadillac motor or Pontiac. I guess that is because so few 400/455 Olds engines have trips on them. Don
Yeah, they do, but they only make a run every year or so. We were having some sealing problems with my Sons tripower setup before we had it surfaced, and were thinking of ordering an Offy 2 x 4 manifold to get it on the road. No one had any and when I called Offy they said 10 months or so ! Even Summit and all the other suppy houses were dry. Luckily, we found a race shop capable of machining the tripower intake to match the head angles, so we were able to get it to seal. Don
Don't overlook the odd diesel version. It was based on the Olds 350 with mondo heavy duty parts, including heavy duty block, forged crankshaft and rods and other parts borrowed from the Super Duty 455. You could bolt on a 671 and never worry about blowing the motor.
Offy finned valve covers are a nice addition. M/T finned covers are also available. The Olds 350 are way cooler than a Chevy 350.
