Ok, I'll bite... Still running, With no fuel, no spark and no plug. Smaller engine with accessories mounted within the shell of the engine you see? Pretty good trick regardless...
Runs on Gen-u-ine bull shit!! Would like to see under the table, I bet there is a box of 'spares' under there! Doc.
Have a look on youtube for the Joe cell the one with a 1970's ford escort if you want too see strange things.
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aCrYaCuCgDY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> That was another one with the video,.... fat guy on a badass lawnmower.
I cant see the video on this computer. but if it is the one im thinking with the older guy takes the spark plug out and then takes off the carb and muffler and it stays running.. This was talked about before he is seen adjusting something behind the motor after start up. he was adjusting the choke on the carb that is mounted on the back side out of the camera and. also from what i understand is that there is another spark plug under the recoil housing. He made this as a goof prop for fairs...
I think all the needed parts are hidden. Who says the spark plug hole is actually open to the cylinder? It could be plugged or welded closed beneath the visible threads in the original sparkplug port. As someone else posted, a carb concealed somewhere else. One things for sure, however it may LOOK, the engine is getting the three essentials, fuel, fire and air. Clever curiousity! Reminds me of the flathead manifold on display at Speedway museum. Story is, Speedy Bill used to race stock cars around the Kansas City area back in the day. One guy was always faster, but nobody could figure out why. Years later, the manifold now on display was picked up at a garage sale or some such and the secret was revealed. There was a rudimentary carb on the underside of the manifold, hidden in the lifter galley feeding updraft in to the manifold runners. Before you call BS on that story, go to the museum and see it first hand. Another very clever ruse. Ray
Weed whacker motor under the recoil, idled real slow, exhaust plumbed to the original exhaust output, kill switch attached to the spark plug lead. most likely a 4 stroke trimmer engine.
I think if it was running on something that would make it "diesel", kerosene or whatever, it would work. It'd be just like in the old days when an old car would run in the driveway for 5 mins after the ignition was turned off. The carb is probably set up so "loose" that once started it could be removed. The motor is probably already warmed up good by the time he pulls it out to show off. I think it's more of a gimmick than a trick. I think it's real...
I'd have to agree with you, I think it could be done if there was something trick added to the oil. Could suck it up through loose valve guide, rings, piston? I know we added glow plug fuel to our kart's engine oil for a little extra kick. Interisting question.
if anyone ever messed with these it starts and runs, and sounds like it should,i know there is a trick of some kind... he does mess with sonething on the left side if you look close... but its just something that i thought was interesting, not a big deal
