Intake valve sizes on the 461 are 1.94 or 2.02, I do agree with you on one thing, they are great heads.

  2. the thing is....the holes are practical because you can bolt stuff to them....so the aftermarket guys always make a point to have 'em.

The first motor in my rod had new style heads with the holes. And my alt mount made use of them. Then we swapped motors to a '70 LT-1 with double hump heads....went to mount up the alternator.....had a head scratching moment.....

The '70 should've had accessory holes.

  4. The block is a '70. The heads are earlier double humps. 461's.

I had a 302 Chevy w/ small valve 461s and a Crane Fireball II cam that was nothin' but fun. With a 4 speed and a light car I could beat the crap out of it but still never get too far out of shape. Ohh, the memories.

We used to install 2.05 Buick valves in those heads for circle track racing.

Yep, anything '68 or newer would have
had the accessory holes. 1967 was the
last year for the 'old style' "no accessory
hole" heads. Since the LT1 didn't come out
until 1970. either someone swapped the
heads for a pair of '67 or older style heads,
    or it wasn't an LT1!

I think the 1969 Corvette 350 ci motor with 350 hp was the predesessor (spelling) to the LT-1 for 1970. I'm not sure what all the goodies the '69 motor came with...

  14. I cleared this up a few posts back. The block is a '70 LT-1. The heads were earlier double hump 461's.

They worked then and they work now. Just because something is "New" it doesn't make it better. Just look at the quarter miles times in the 60s and today and I mean street cars. Chevrolet got it right with the 327 and camel heads.

  20. After Market Camel Heads would be OK. if there weren't so many Original heads still around. I have this set of 194's nobody wants, fully ported. Good around town and plenty of power to spare.

  21. Actually the 65 327-250hp cars did have them.

Ditto on the 250/327 having them. It was
    only the 210hp 2bbl 327's that didn't have
    them.

This is not correct. the 62-64 250hp had the power pack heads. I have a 63 motor and my friend had a 64 250 hp vette and they both had the 1.72 intake heads.

  24. Aerorocket your wrong, mart quoted me if you read my previous post I said 65 "DID" get them and he agreed. You said your buddy ect but your talking 62-64 but missing the 1965 327 250hp introduction ie first year of the double humps on 327-250hp intake1.94/exh1.50
