I was at my buddies and seen these wheels, and he said he was going to sell them. I think he said they are off of 55-57 Cadillacs. He has 7 of them, only 4 have center caps. He said he wanted $400 for all seven. How rare are they? Is this a good price? Should I buy them? Thanks, Mike
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-Cadill...pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr HERES another one from C/list colorado http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/2769120279.html
Keep in mind that the Cad is 5in on 5 and your Merc is 5 1/2in on 5. Will have to redrill your hubs and axles to match or use adaptors. Just my 2 cents worth.
57-58 numbers are different but offsets are the same and will match the earlier ones are year specific so make sure that they match. http://classic-cadillac.com/cadillac-sabre-wheels-will-they-fit-on-your-model-year/59 for more information, no matter what 400.00 for seven is really cheap and you could re-sell for more if you don't use them. -Nick
Have not seen them on a Merc, but have seen them on Merle Bergs 55 Chevy. I`m thinkin he put them on in the 50`s or early 60`s.
Here`s another scan. He started in 62 and finished customizing it in 68. Never painted it until the 90`s, couldn`t decide on the right paint until Chrome Illusion came out. Famous car builder from Bellvue------------Iowa.
Don`t know for sure. He turned Ray Bozarts 4-dr Buick in to a carson topped 2-dr. did Rays wife,Myrnas chopped 57 Olds. Did the body work on Norm Grabowski`s tub just to mention a few.
Cadillac put them on Eldorados from 55 through 58 and they were also optional those years on the Series 62s and 60 Special so while they are not common, they are not really rare. And while they are all 5 on 5s and the offset is the same, 55-56 Sabres are different than 57-58 Sabres in that the later wheels have more clearance to clear the ball joints on the later cars. It may not matter if they will be used on another car, but early Sabres will not work on the front of later Cadillacs without using wheel spacers. The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at the 5 digit number found on the outside of the wheel between two of the lug holes. If the number starts with 40 or 41 they are late, earlies will start with a 3 (I believe 36 or 38). If they're straight and the chrome is good they are worth some money.
$400 is a steal in my opinion! I would grab those up as soon as he said $400!! Hate to sound like a vulture but if you don't want them pm me. i'll take them! Ha!
